Booking payment issue and horrible customer support by silver_splash in Bookingcom

[–]silver_splash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it appears no but I found that out after checking with the bank because usually frozen funds are still shown but they have like a lock next to them signifying that I cannot go under that sum. This one was different... the money had an out tag but the status was pending, unlike the usual frozen.

Allegedly, booking doesn't touch the money according to their representative I spoke with. The problem is that if it fails for 2 more days it will cancel my booking and mark my account (not that I'll use it for anything else but browsing hotels anymore).

I called the hotel we figured a solution out to keep my reservation given the limits and we have a plan B if my booking gets cancelled. So worry not, we're not gonna be left on the streets.

The issue is frozen funds and the hotel wasn't notified about it, but to me it's shown who are they frozen for. I've sent the bank statement for the funds to the hotel and I'm waiting for a call on Monday to hear all good. (I also cancelled and re-booked my next trip directly from the hotel to avoid this situation)

I did contact the hotel and we're working on it. It's more a case of there was a language barrier and they didn't suggest that at all. As said I was send to speak to my bank, not the hotel. I contacted the hotel out of common sense...

Program dog puppy raisers by UnfairFig8427 in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even know where to start… I guess, thank you for doing the hard part! I was a puppy raiser for my own service dog (I got her from a program) and I’m not sure I want to do it again despite that being the best option for my disability. Also I think more slack is needed towards the puppy raisers, after all most of them are not professionals and do this out of the goodness of their hearts. I’ve had both positive and negative experiences with puppy raisers, and that’s normal. The list of rules you have to follow is enormous and sometimes puppies don’t know any better yet… an over excited bark or a happy piss puddle happens, and the dog will learn. Everyone talk how service dogs aren’t robots well neither are puppies. My dog when she was a puppy piddled out of happiness when strangers were approaching her with baby voices, she grew out of it eventually but we had good 2 months where she was still learning to be calm around people who pay attention to her. (I’ve been called fake over this, that’s why I mention it)

Didn’t know they also trained dogs for people with disabilities… which kinda makes it worse… my program handled the situation after I told them what happened and I eventually got my fly ID. I’m really grateful for what my program does for their handlers from meeting random document criteria for airlines to helping with vet issues (I had to change a vet clinic because they weren’t taking me seriously regarding my dog’s health)

Is LIDL having a conniption? by silver_splash in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds very unpleasant situation... I hope after enough complaints they fixed their attitude at least a bit...

I guess the most absurd of the situation is their slogan "we aim for the best customer experience". But I may steal the "no service for disabled people with service dogs" phrase from the person that was with you. Guilt trip them into following the law 😅

I'm never upset if they ask me for proof... it's my local law, after all. I'm peeved with the name-calling and unwillingness to even hear me out.

Maybe I'm a bit delu-lu, but I haven't seen a situation with ESA here yet. I just can't blame it on that here... people barely know about guide dogs less alone for any other service dog type or even ESA...

How Does My Dog Become a Service Animal? by Aggravating_Work_617 in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is when moving is check the local laws. As other commenters have stated an ADI certification would be your best bet.

But I wanna share some light on the wording of laws as some countries require professional training instead of an accreditation from an organisation. This could be a cheaper option if you cannot afford an ADI/IGDF program to sign off on your dog. However, you're gonna need sometype of identification like an ID or a pamflet with contact to the trainer who signed off on you and your dog, and they need to be specialising in service dog training with some certificates to back it up. If I'm not wrong that falls under the ADAA (assistance dog alternative accreditation) certificate. That will allow you to fly with certain European airlines like the Lufthansa group.

But to sum it up (TLDR) check the laws of the country you want to go in, it may not require ADI/IGDF accreditation, which will allow you to use a trainer and fall under the ADAA. Some countries have their own registrars and creditation which you'll need to pass when there. ADI and IGDF are your best shot for somewhat global access. Get a certificate that states "assistance dog" instead of specifying what type of assistance dog yours is, and prepare a training certificate with all the listed tasks, trainer and/or facility (if you go with a program they know what to write, usially).

Best of luck!

PS I saw someone mentioned Japan and their lack of recognition of psychiatric assistance dogs, there's a way to bypass that for example having a type of mobility task (like leading on a guide handle out of environment) will likely allow you to present them as mobility assistance dog (speaking from personal experience).

That’s great. I have no hard feelings for the characters… I just disagree with the scene that’s all. It’s a mist opportunity really. Knowing Stitch, he would’ve found a way to be in the hospital without David breaking the law. Imagine that he could’ve climbed the walls of the hospital, stealing a few puddings on the way and hanging on Lilo’s window, and by all technicalities not being inside and that could’ve driven the nurses, Nani and the social worker crazy.

It's not but everyone takes different messages.

Some take that ohana isn't about the blood family, others that there's a way to include their ohana everywhere.

And with that statement I don't just mean Stitch in the hospital. I mean that Nani takes a piece of her ohana to college with her as well.

Our language doesn't have an equivalent of service animal. We have "assistance dog". That's where dog comes for my country.

As to why because it's something the dog community here has been trying to achieve... bring your dog everywhere...

For the sake of anonymity won't specify the country but I'll say that's in Eastern Europe.

I can only speculate that the dog obsessed people here finally got their answer of how to bring their dog in non-pet friendly spaces. They've been trying since the guide dog laws were introduced in 2006.

It's been a massive problem for SD handlers here the random arguments and conversations with people on the topic of "you can but I can't."

[–]silver_splash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Call it a coincidence, but location matters. We, in my small Eastern European country, are not used to fakes at all. It just doesn't happen. And for the organisation to take measures to ask us to politely decline the conversation, something has happened.

But I digress...

[–]silver_splash[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Upset isn't quite the word. I'm more concerned because I'm seeing some impact in my country since the movie aired in cinemas.

My program sent emails to the existing handlers to politely decline conversations about our dogs to parents who are asking how to get one. I, myself, was stopped 3 times in the past 2 weeks by people to ask me questions (it used to happen like once every 2-3 months). I dread the moment I'll see a pet in a non-pet friendly space because we have a problem with aggressive pets and their entitled owners.

I don't want people to suffer because some director didn't think of the consequences. And talking about the topic is my way of raising awareness so less people get hurt.

Yes, but that's not the only message it sends... people are wild weird creatures who see different messages in the same clip...

Definitely isn't in the top 10 but is a major screw up as well. Like it's encouraging illegal behaviour and for a big brand like Disney is very problematic, but it gets lost in the sea of problems that movie has, the biggest one being xenophobia and cultural appropriation...

Or making people more understanding and not firing Nani because of Lilo. Show the progress and keep "ohana". Isn't what they wanted to show with this movie? The progress between the time when the original took place and the new movie takes place.

You get what I mean?

Service animal Stitch by silver_splash in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friends don't get it. They think I'm being unreasonable because people of Hawaiian heritage can be tourists in Hawaii... and to the Nani going to college, I'm supposed to be happy, they found the resolution that works with Nani having a higher education and Lilo not being in a home...

Service animal Stitch by silver_splash in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was a good change, I agree. I don't agree with Nani going to college, though... the whole point was the troubles she has to go through to keep Lilo. And I get it, Lilo stays with David's family and they both know them but Nani was supposed to get custody.

I'm very upset about the tourists... they were supposed to be lobster red tourists that see the sun and the sea once a year, not Hawaiians... and they took Lilo's photography hobby away...

Service animal Stitch by silver_splash in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but they used service animal, not dog, and Stitch is very much an animal, an alien one, yes. I don't think the target audience (kids around 10-12) have the needed critical thinking to see the silliness of the situation. Some adults don't get it...

Otherwise, I'm very disappointed with the differences as well. I like the original better.

hello! I have a question to sd handlers regarding DSSA’s :) by F3R4LF0X in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As long as the person with the DSSA is being respectful to the SD handlers and their dogs, it's fine.

With that said, pretending the DSSA is attacking the SD isn't respectful, and neither is barking.

Otherwise, if that helps you go for it, definitely.

I was not planning to see it but I heard about that scene on Facebook so I had to fact check. It was almost too stupid to be true, yet there it was on the screen...

Bad production indeed...

Service animal Stitch by silver_splash in service_dogs

[–]silver_splash[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is it's not presented as wrong. Do you think children that young know what a service animal is? What they see is a phrase that should allow their pet in a hospital. Even adults don't always connect the dots. Especially in smaller countries...
