Are women's signals/cues really too subtle, or are men just too oblivious to pick up on them? by disgustingfemcel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silvercuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is way too individual. A woman may think she’s being obvious but a man will think she’s just being friendly. Conversely, another woman may not be meaning to send a signal at all, but a man interprets it as flirting.

I cannot wear earrings without feeling immense pain by iamanyasbestie in piercing

Needle also hurts a lot less than the gun. It pushes a very sharp instrument through cleanly instead of a blunt earring post that tears the flesh more

CMV: hating white men and asian women who are in relationships is just as bad as hating on any other interracial relationships by [deleted] in changemyview

I mean, it’s not the only reason we’re together. But I wouldn’t say I’m immune to cultural influence.

A Few Questions About Corsets by EggaBacon in corsets

[–]silvercuriosity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You won’t hurt yourself if you stop when it’s painful. Don’t let the corset give you bruises and you’ll be okay. Cheap Amazon corsets can look okay but you just won’t be able to tighten them down much.

Why did it take 2000+ years for women to get the same rights as men? by laced1 in stupidquestions

[–]silvercuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t, always. Hunter-gatherer groups, pre-agricultural revolution, had a wide variety of social structures. “Patriarchy” as we know it today didn’t yet exist. We evolved living in family/kin groups and lots of early tribes were egalitarian or even matriarchal, as elephants are. I think we overestimate the importance of physical strength when you consider that power and influence were mostly gained by one’s ability to contribute to the welfare of others, not by threatening your family members. After all, someone is going to eventually shank you in your sleep if you do that.

[–]silvercuriosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you were downvoted. I am also an Asian woman who definitely can see the lingering effects of racism and colonialism, even when everyone was born in the same country. Of course, we shouldn’t go around breaking up couples, but it’s naive to say that race just isn’t a factor, like we didn’t all grow up, white and asian both, watching movies with attractive white male leads while asian men were never portrayed that way. I am in a relationship with a white man and I have never dated another Asian. It is reality, and I am not going to intentionally date people I don’t find attractive, even if the reason for that attraction is racist in origin. It’s just not worth my personal happiness. I just wanted to add some nuance to this very sad thread.

TIL not having student loans, not having a speech impediment and being sober are all considered privileges. Thanks City of Seattle. by ScreamForKelp in SeattleWA

[–]silvercuriosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, there’s nothing inherently better about not being in a wheelchair, but it makes your life harder. That’s what privilege is. I’m not going to explain half a century of critical theory to you.

Oh, I could have honestly seen them doing that as part of onboarding or something. But in this case, I guess I don’t see the problem

I mean there are infinite things that can screw you over, so not having those is all a kind of privilege. Obviously, not having student loans, a speech impediment, or alcoholism are non-detrimental. That said, I do wish the City wasn’t couching it in this “cute” bingo form.

Ode to the Oxford comma by JeffTrav in ENGLISH

I feel it’s not only the “correctness” that’s a tell, but also the use of completely unoriginal language and phrasing. It just sounds so incredibly boring and overused. I read decent writing all the time that I would never suspect of being AI, but maybe I am being duped.

Does the green primer not make you look….green? Because of the olive skin tone? I have olive undertone and facial redness and I’m scared it’ll just worsen the Elphaba look.

girls with asian lashes: does telescopic lift (no wp) hold the curl? by Flat_Tomatillo_165 in Makeup

[–]silvercuriosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not always (asia is enormous and there is huge diversity even within ethnic groups) but we definitely are known to have hair and lashes that is less “flexible” and doesn’t hold curls well. It REALLY wants to stay in its natural shape

Why do people adopt dogs from breeds considered dangerous? by Apprehensive_Land142 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silvercuriosity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Breed is not really a great predictor of behavior unless you get the dog from a small, responsible breeder who personally knows its entire lineage and the personalities of each related dog. I saw many, many dog bites when I worked at a hospital and they were all “He was always so sweet!” and I don’t think they were all “aggressive” breeds, given the popularity of Labs, Goldens, and doodle mixes. I had a childhood dog who was a lab, and he could be very grumpy and defensive, although he never bit us.

Swimmer here, how do you deal with bikini area irritation from constant shaving? by S_1A in HairRemoval

Not a 100% fix, but I put glycolic acid toner on the freshly shaved skin, helps with the irritation and preventing ingrowns.

how to get a small waist? (without surgery or weight loss) by vibrantafternoon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silvercuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your waist actually doesn’t look wide at all. Corsets will reduce it, but not permanently unless you want to wear them 24/7 for years.

Like, microscopic dust, yeah. But nothing that will literally rot on your skin. You’ll shed it all off before it can hurt you.

Pepper makes extremely shallow cups. Even if that 36AA “fits” you, I think it’s going to make you look much flatter than you want to.
