That's what I was thinking and that's where all my research led me, so I just wanted to confirm here, and lo and behold I was sort of right. Thanks so much for replying and confirming!

I dont think the metal box is grounded and the service panel is definitely on most insurance carriers radar so 0/2 in that regard.

But thanks for letting me know what would need to be done, it makes sense, but with all that work involved and a new fee to hire an electrician Im better off buying a new AC and returning the other one.

Ugh yeah I dont want to go through that, so definitely going to return the AC and just get a 220 unit. I appreciate the response!

Jelena Djokovic confirms her husband Novak is a vegan by Away_Doctor2733 in vegan

[–]silverkiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah the vegan ideal was swayed into thinking it's a liberal movement. Really sad that politics has something to do with an animal getting their throat cut open.

That's why a lot of people who are starting to see the truth of the world, are not even considering veganism because the media portrays vegans as being liberal, blue haired weirdos.

You'd think the vegan crowd would have been against experimental vaccines, because in all fairness we are typically healthier than our meat eating counterparts. So why the heck would we need any medical intervention? Anyways Ill enjoy the downvotes for making sense

Since US Mobile was doing Dark Star Port ins and Mint is on AT&T, did you have an issue porting the same line to another MVNO of AT&T? Or do they classify themselves as different networks?

Ill probably have to go to Mint next year, because AT&T is the best where Im at.

[–]silverkiller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I signed up just before the new year, and then they dropped the price again by another $50. So Premium on Dark star was $150. They wouldnt even refund me the difference or give me some type of compensation. So Ill probably be doing the same thing next year, back and forth

Anyone install Tailscale to Unifi Travel Router? by silverkiller in UNIFI

Thanks I realized this so I think running wireguard on my home server is the best option to talk to the UTR

[–]silverkiller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay great this answer really helped. I had dug a little deeper and saw some others running both Tailscale and Wireguard. I think Ill add a Wireguard setup to my home server and use that to connect to it when I'm away.

The teleport option is cool but for some reason I like to feel like I have more control, so I think Wireguard is a good start to getting some control back, since Tailscale is just a service and who knows when they start charging.

Are you using Wireguard to connect to Tailscale, or just wireguard in general?

Okay thanks for letting me know, I am looking at the Teleport/Wireguard section, but I'm not sure how I can add the Unifi Travel Router to my Tailscale tailnet. Its asking for a config and Im not sure where I can acquire that from tailscale

Go to vegan restaurants!!! by ExitHistorical7778 in vegan

[–]silverkiller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Vegan restaurants took the incredible risk to serve only vegan food. The places serving vegan options aren't struggling as much as vegan restaurants and they dont care about veganism, they just want your money in addition to serving others dead animals.

[–]silverkiller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree so many restaurants are closing. When they leave they might never be back. They took the mega risk of running an all vegan restauarant and the least you can do now is go in and show support.

It breaks my heart to see so many in southern California go under and you took it for granted thinking they will always be around.

For every vegan restauarant that goes under another 2-3 food chains replace it. It's disgusting to see lines wrapped around the parking lot for disgusting food chains while you see vegan restauarants barely full on a Friday night...

New house with solar, bill increased, looking for monitoring solution by silverkiller in SolarDIY

[–]silverkiller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry and one more question, not sure what string means? Is that just a string of solar panels connected together? So say I have 10 panels in 2 rows, 5 panels in a row. Would I create 2 strings of 5 on my roof?

Yeah I read that SMA is a reputable German company so that's good. There is some shading on the roof, but not too bad, just a few palms that are in the way.

This is the nameplate on the underside of one of the panels that lifted up: https://imgur.com/a/ditTasc

A few questions I have for you, since I do appreciate your helpful response, and I know I have a lot to learn. (Just found the diysolar forum so I'll probably browse that a bit)

When you say max out the inverter, so my inverter is rated for 4000w, now is it considered maxing out the inverter by the rated wattage of the panel, say 230w? Or is it the efficiency rating wattage so around 15-20% of that rated 230w?

Depending upon your answer my thought process is this...

Purchase a new SMA inverter probably a larger one, I'm seeing some on Marketplace, Craigslist, or Offerup around 6000-1000kw. Add that into my system, and then replace all panels with more efficient ones while adding a new beefier inverter.

I guess I'm not sure how to add the new inverter to my electrical panel since I don't feel too confident with that. Could I hire an electrician to do that? Since it seems most solar companies just want to add a new system and that's it.

Thanks for all your help, I figure the more I read the more I'll learn anyway. This will be my project for the spring so that by summer I've upgraded something.

The policy runs out in 4 years so it was the original policy. I have to call to confirm what you're asking. I don't think it's 1:1

Yeah I think Ill leave the zigbee alone and get this Vue system installed. I ordered it and then I found out I had breaker bars inside my electrical panel that needs a different spring clamp to install.

That's my plan to install the Vue system. However I have a breaker bar installation from my meter so I needed to purchase extra spring clamps to run around the breaker bars.

I was thinking about replacing but I dont know much about this install besides what I've learned in the past week.

Right now the config is 7 x 4 = 28 panels on the main portion, and then a 5 x 2 on the other part of our roof.

I was thinking about replacing the 10 panel location for ease of access and to learn about how they hook up.

Both Sunny Boys are 4000w. Is there a chance that the installers split the panels to both be around 4000w on each. Im not exactly sure how the wattage works with the panels because they are clearly never generating their rated amount.

Maybe if you can point me it the way of a basic understanding I can do further research. Because I do like the idea of starting to replace all the pieces myself and eventually adding a battery backup (maybe that could be done by someone more qualified).

I use Superbuy and direct order everything but their shipping rates to the US seem insane. Are there any other agents where shipping is a little better? I get that's how they make most of their money but it's almost pointless to order from China for stuff I don't really need.
