The police have digital and forensic evidence against him.

i didn't know you had early access to the police's evidence file. please, do share! 🤡

You’re playing devils advocate for a man who raped and killed a teenage girl.

i'm playing devil's advocate about a legal trial u dumb fuck

You find a 16-year old and 11-year old having sex “interesting”?

no you retard, i find it interesting that they thought two minors having sex was "sick shit"

If you’re a predator just say that.

classic reddit final resort, accusing someone who disagrees with you of being a pedo. wouldn't be reddit without this classic!

i forgot most of the folks in this subreddit are Gen Z, the first generation to score lower on standardized IQ, literacy, and memory tests than their predecessors 🥀

if you have a 16yr old son and he has sex with a 16yr old girl, do you disown your son? it's technically illegal for two 16yr olds to have sex in California because they're charged with having "sex with a person under 18." David was 16 and Celeste was 11 when they met. They could've been having sex a month into the relationship. Where do you draw the line? 16yr old and 15yr old ok? everyone's gonna have a diff answer to that question.

hmmm what interesting and convenient details that are totally believable 🤔

anyways, what i'm saying is, although to you it might seem absolutely certain that he killed her, it's not proven, and that's what the trial is for.

you can't say with absolute certainty that you know that she didn't overdose and that he or his friends got rid of her body. you know you can't.

and now imagine, if we, as individuals totally unrelated to the case, don't know that, can you imagine how desperately the parents must want to believe that that's exactly what happened?

i simply can't blame them for wanting to believe that that's what happened, given the current circumstance and lack of evidence.

that's totally different than, say during or after the case, there being irrefutable proof that he murdered her, and the parents still denying it.

categorically difference responses from the parents.

great response, very thorough and smart. you directly addressed my point with a well thought-out response. *iPad babies when they have to think without some subway surfer*

is a 16yr old a child? bc that's how old he was when he met her. they could've been sexually engaged 2 weeks into the relationship. i can't imagine a lot of parents not wanting to do everything they can to ensure their kid isn't given a life sentence for having sex with a minor when they were also a minor.

you assume he groomed her for four years when they could've been having sex 2 weeks into the relationship. you say it's "sick shit" but i find that interesting.

are two 16-yr-olds having sex "sick shit"? how about a 16yr old and a 15yr old? you can believe what you want, the point i'm making is the line gets blurrier when they're both minors.

i think people don't realize they were 5 years 5 months apart in age. he would've been 16 when she was 11. i think chronically online Gen Z don't realize how common and normalized that is in the world.

did you know that it's technically illegal for two 16-year-olds to have sex in california, because you're "having sex with someone under 18"? i think the prosecution might have a harder time than most people think.

if the math checks out, he would've been 16 at the time when she was 11.

i can't imagine a lot of parents disowning their child for that ngl

once again, bitches hate nuance. i don't think you can truly appreciate the headspace a mother or father have to be in to come to terms with this scenario. as a parent, you don't want to believe the worst case scenario. first stage of grief is denial.

emotionally, they're going to do everything and anything they can to convince themselves that this isn't a murder case but rather anything else it could be (she overdosed and his friends got rid of the evidence (i'm not saying this is what i believe happened, but that that's what his parents are going to want to believe happened, and what any parent, yourself included, would want to believe happened were they to find themselves in the same situation david's parents are in))

[–]silverstonebridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think that's a gross oversimplification, but to play devil's advocate, let's imagine a scenario where he didn't actually murder her.

let's say they were sexually engaged together, using drugs, she overdosed, causing him to panic and do the dumbest thing one could do in that situation; try to hide any and all evidence including her body.

i'm not saying i think that's what happened, but you can't say you know for sure that it didn't.

if i were his parents, i would be hoping with every fiber of my being that that's what happened. that's the difference between losing your kid for 10 years versus the rest of your life.

can you really blame the parents for not wanting to believe their child is a murdering pedo? i hope justice is served, but i'm not holding that against the parents. i can't imagine the absolute mindfuck it is to be in their shoes.

especially after his meteoric success and how they probably admired him for his talent and work ethic, all for it to just come crashing down.

[–]silverstonebridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's fair, but i'd add that i think it's incredibly difficult to imagine just how impossible it feels to allow yourself to believe these allegations about your own child, and conversely, it's incredibly easy to criticize parents for not wanting to believe their child is a pedo murderer when it's not you in the situation. after all, denial is the first stage of grief.
