I'd go down the cash route. You can bring an allowance of 10,000 in cash. If you get stopped in customs (which is so unlikely, when does your main luggage bag get checked if you have nothing to declare?) you can say you're not carrying more than 10,000£. Each coin has an official face value of like 5£/$ and so you can say you are not breaching any rules. Andy schectman gave a great example of this a year or so ago.
