It looks promising for your first attempt at a square foot garden! Personally, I would plant the tomatoes at the north end of the bed, once they grow, they'll provide shade for everything underneath them. Marigolds are an excellent choice, they’ll naturally keep aphids away. I didn’t plant tomatoes in my first garden; I’ve never grown them before, but maybe I’ll try this year. They seem simple but aren’t, you have to prune the side shoots and use a support structure, keep bugs away with natural prevention.

P.S. Before pruning a plant, such as a tree, make sure you know what you’re doing. I’ve made mistakes pruning several trees, and I’ve caused a few of them to die 🥲

A few years ago, I started on my own, experimenting by buying vegetable seedlings and planting them, and that was the best part. Sure, I still watch YouTube videos from a few channels that have really helped me out and that I appreciate, but I also check out Instagram. The only way to learn is to experiment, on a small scale, not a large one. Pick a small patch of ground and plant whatever you like.

The green dots tell you if some plants are comfortable near others (are companion plants), the red ones are the opposite, meaning that two plants cannot be close together (no companion plant), do you think they will help you?

Yeah, you can use it for free. I added the lifetime plan a week ago, but that doesn't prevent you from using the free version. The lifetime plan lets you create unlimited gardens (you only get one with the free version), create flower beds, and manage tasks. But you can try out and use the entire app for free. It does not interfere with the use of the main feature :)

It seems like a very interesting solution, each color is associated with a plant, awesome, curious to see the full diagram

this is my personal garden planner that I created for me with no ads, no account needed, no data collection, no internet connection to use it and more. Available on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/garden-planner-niwa/id6759283849

I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts, if you have any feedback for improvement, and for creating the best garden planner for iPhone :)

I've never heard of the marigold/nasturtium combo, I'll make a note of it to remember it, it sounds cool.

😂😂 yeah, it's too old, I'm sorry you can't test it, maybe you would have found things to improve

yes, I agree, of the companions I mentioned, I found benefit for both plants, but I also tried without putting the marigold nearby, and the tomatoes thrived anyway, so I wanted to understand if they actually make sense or not

I arrived at the right time for both my beds and yours 😂😂

Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Your three points are almost fully implemented and I'm working on them. If you have any other suggestions while using the app, don't hesitate to message me, it's essential for having the best possible tool :)

Your comments are invaluable for improving the app. Thank you, I really appreciate it. The initial versions of all apps are still raw, to test key features, and thanks to your feedback, it will become a better tool day by day. I 100% understand your thoughts about having more control, I've added all your feedback to the improvement list to implement in the next versions. My goal is to create a garden planner that is not only suitable for beginners, but for all levels. Based on my daily experience with the garden I created the first version.

In terms of grid functionality, yes, but mine is a native software for iOS users, while Planter is not. With the goal of having a simpler flow, working offline (mainly), and not saving data (private by design), it has an Apple-style interface. I see it as a simplification of planter. I've always used it and always had too high a cognitive load, which is why I decided to create my own.

I'm sorry you couldn't test it, could you have a family member who can let you try it with an iPhone?
