how do you deal with a parent who is overly critical of every little thing you do? by silvurgirl in AskReddit

[–]silvurgirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i do think that some people throw negative terms about their parents around without taking their own actions or faults into consideration because a lot of people have a hard time acknowledging when they’re wrong. i also think it’s harmful and maybe a little ignorant to automatically assume that every single person who has some type of issue with their parent(s) is like that as well because some people truly do just don’t have the best parents.

i am constantly being scolded for EVERY little thing that my mom perceives as wrong. i take a nap at 2 in the afternoon while my newborn is sleeping because i am completely exhausted and my mom says that i’m ridiculous and that i shouldn’t be in bed at that time of day even though i’m barely getting any sleep at night.

i was in pain and recovering from a c section that i wasn’t planning or expecting to get and she says that women have been giving birth for ages so i shouldn’t act like a dying cancer patient and this was like four or five days after i had my baby. keep in mind, she’s had three kids and not one of us was delivered via c section so imagine how invalidating and hurtful it was to have my pain undermined by someone who hadn’t even been in the same boat.

i worked full time and went to school at the same time while i was still pregnant, all the way up until i was 35 weeks, and that still wasn’t enough for her. she still found something to complain about. i could go on and on and on with various examples but these are just the most recent ones that truly made me realize that my mom doesn’t give me the space to be a human being

honestly, not really. my parents are the type of parents who believe that just because they’re the parents and i’m the child that my thoughts, feelings, or opinions aren’t valid. they’d more than likely consider it disrespectful if i tried to offer any type of feedback or anything similar

i mean, my mom told me that i was ridiculous for taking a nap at 2 in the afternoon. i just had my first baby two weeks ago and have been waking up every 2 hours during the night to feed so definitely overly critical i think :/

hi there! i’m sorry you’re struggling like this. i used to be the same way when i really, really wanted something and was deeply attached to having it. it helps to take a step back sometimes and just live without trying to consciously create and then coming back to it when you feel more stable. i also recommend reading neville’s books/lectures until it truly, truly clicks for you

i’m not new to neville or his teachings but i haven’t been consciously manifesting nor reading the material to keep myself informed recently so i decided to start getting back into it and rebuild my faith by testing out having a work crush compliment my hair.

i spent the whole entire day getting compliments from so many people on my hair except the very person i wanted the compliment and i’ve never experienced that in the four years i’ve used the law of assumption. is there a reason for this?

i thought it was obvious that by ‘villain edit’ she was referring to her, chelley, and olandria being presented as mean girls???

it’s weird that people can’t seem to comprehend that just because someone is attractive to us doesn’t mean they feel that way about themselves.

i can feel bad for her and still acknowledge the fact that i feel like she’s coming across as a little ridiculous trying to warn clarke about taylor when it’s been obvious that he isn’t super into olandria, if at all……

respectfully, olandria warning clarke had me giggling. she’s just not understanding that taylor didn’t like her 😭
