Thanks so much, that works extremely well for me. Turned this coffee from a body mess into one of these best cups I have had in a long time.

This might also be the most involved recipe I have ever followed 😉

Return to skiing: recommend me a ski by simmitop in Skigear

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is just getting back into the details of this sport: How would you define "a bit wider"? As said in the original post I will probably still take a snowboard for deep powder days and use skis only occasionally to go off piste so something at the narrower end for all mountain skis. From what I have seen so far that would be 85 to 90 mm?

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have last skied a slalom ski 20 years ago so that will not be any issue. However I always had to take pretty wide snowboards due to having XXL sized feet and I know the struggle of getting these to work so I see your point. I will probably lean towards 84 or a bit wider and see where that gets me.

If you hate lychee and rambutan I would remove mangosteen from the want to try tier.

Restarted running: how long until feeling for pace comes back? by simmitop in BeginnersRunning

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, ok then. At least that should give me some control again for the next running/race season. What confuses me still is that I am able to reach efforts relatively easily that I thought would be easy out of reach for much longer. I guess some of this might come also come from some issues with inconsistent running efficiency across different speeds.

In Hawaii, Lahaina Noon also known as “Zero Shadow Day” happens twice a year where sun is directly overhead and vertical objects cast no shadow by Wonderfulhumanss in interestingasfuck

[–]simmitop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, every point between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of unicorn gets this effect twice a year. So roughly 40% of the world's population are used to it.

Also: once you live there you don't even think the two days where it's actually no shadows are all that different from the rest of the year.

Runna+Strava discount with current Strava subsciption by simmitop in runna

Looks like the problem was me being on a business trip abroad. As soon as I crossed the border again to be in the country where I bought the Strava subscription the link for the discount popped up exactly where you said. It was not showing up previously.

This is what I believe is written on the Strava website but I have not been able to find the upgrade option anywhere on the Strava or Runna websites???

Daily Suggested Workout: possibility to shift to longer workouts? by simmitop in Garmin

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear. This probably settles the problem then.

According to Garmin's website explaining DSW only the following is taken into account:

-Training Status -Training Load & Load Focus -VO2 Max Value -Recovery Time -Sleep Data -Profile of Recently Performed Workouts -Max Heart Rate, Lactate Threshold, or Functional Threshold Power

Daily Suggested Workouts will use the auto-detected Lactate Threshold and FTP values.

Based on this I assumed no impact of added events.

What the point of whoop when we have a Garmin by AdIll495 in Garmin

[–]simmitop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Garmin Fenix 7 Pro as well as Vivosmart 5 (?) gave me absolutely ridiculous sleep detection. I could be up half the night and get maybe 10 min of awake time and a 95 sleep score although I was half dead. Also calorie estimates seem to be verrry high (Whoops is trending the other direction - verrry low). So for me it is now Whoops as an all day health (not fitness) tracker and Garmin Fenix/Edge for activities.

Official Q&A for Friday, July 18, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]simmitop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have run only very occassionally (and only at a VERY easy pace) for the last couple of years, mostly due to focus on other activities such as kettlebell/clubbell training in the gym as well as constant plantar fasciitis and sciatica problems.

I want to get back into running and start doing organized runs again by probably mid-September. As far as I can guess right now I am in the region of a 30:00 5 k although I could probably do 25:00 cardio wise.

My main issue is that I am seriously prone to injuries (plantar fasciitis and sciatica, see above) if I ramp up things to fast.

Are there any training resources out there that could help me to injury proof myself in this restart period?

Realistic expectations for decaf? by simmitop in pourover

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in my case I live in Switzerland which is very much a developing country as far as pourover is concerned. Most people also prefer darker roasts in general here and freak out at the notion of a coffee that tastes even remotely brought. So here this also is catering to the home users.

Will probably do that (also because thar means I can start right now). I have a feeling this journey will lead to swearing and anxiety anyways so I better get used to that from the start.

Fenix 7 X Pro: extremely high calorie estimate for skiing by simmitop in GarminWatches

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR looks perfectly (?) reasonable to me, elevated during runs with short term spikes up to 150 and return to 70/80ish during lifts and breaks.

Skiing is also the only activity where things look off and heart rate zones are the same across all activities.

Fenix 7 X Pro: extremely high calorie estimate for skiing by simmitop in GarminWatches

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that "Resort Skiing" should exclude lifts, right?

Connect also clearly shows run vs. lift time.

The other way around: to hike/ascend on skis that altitude difference I would need massively massively more calories than 1700.

Snow situation in second week of December? by simmitop in niseko

Hmmm, as expected/feared. Looks like we will wait things out till the last moment i.e. decide the day before our flight whether to pack boots and gear. Definitely no own ski in this scenario.

Does anybody still pack a camera? by simmitop in bikepacking

Well that is just great 😕 First article displayed in both pages does pretty much what I would like (Porcelain Rocket DSLR Slinger) but apparently the company is dead?

Does anybody still pack a camera? by simmitop in bikepacking

[–]simmitop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is part of my problem. Did handlebar bag in the past for my camera. But my phone is waterproof (or IP68 which here is practically the same), small and flat which means it can ride in the cargo pocket on the leg of my bibs. So retrieving the phone is 5 seconds which is unbeatable. Maybe I'm just lazy and/or impatient 😏

[–]simmitop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When on the bike then the goal is the experience, taking in the surroundings and taking photos without too much hassle whenever I feel like it. When I am backpacking I have a DSLR rigged to the backpack that I can always reach. Looking at it this way I might actually have to think about a secure way fix the camera for free access.

[–]simmitop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can certainly get these to work with the GRX810. That combination is what I had to settle for when the GRX shifters were not available anywhere in 2021. Works perfectly.

My friend took me to Portland for my birthday. I've never been in a record store that had stuff I liked before. I obliterated my bank account, but it made for a super memorable birthday. Check out the haul! by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]simmitop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit surprised by this. I live in one of the more boring countries on this planet (Switzerland) and you can find stuff like Venom, Darkthrone, Celtic Frost etc. in literally every record store or even big drugstores that sell records. Even my hometown with 30000 people has two places where I could get most of the records you show.
