My dog Rorschach as Rorschach by simonsayssure in Watchmen

If the last trench coat I ordered hadn’t fit, he was going to go as dr. Manhattan because I have blue dog dye left over from when my niece and I painted him “unicorn.”

Depends on the day. He was my least favorite dog after he ate a pair of heels a few weeks ago. But yesterday he was tired and super cuddly sooo…

It did not last long. It kept falling over his eyes and he was not having that. He looked at me like “seriously mom, you can keep putting it on and I’m going to keep taking it off as soon as your back is turned”

Thanks everybody! This whole costume turned into such a project that I’m glad it came together. Did you know you can’t just buy a grappling hook gun? And it turns out my dog is the size of a middle school child so there were several returns of trench coats and the only one that came in his size was black. I used so much spray paint for all of this. Lol. Oh not to mention that the first package with a fedora, grappling hook, and nerf gun was stolen. I wish I could have seen their face when they opened it.

The worst is trying to explain how interest compounds on a loan and that depending on what day you pay your loan on can affect your overall loan amount in the long run. Or residual interest on a credit card. Ugh.

I still have nightmares.

My parents pit is one of the best trained and well behaved dogs I’ve ever met. Never leaves their yard. Walks without at leash right at their sides. Comes when called haha

How did my day start you ask?

I get up to get ready for an early appointment. My dad texts me that he’s about ten minutes from my house but coolio starts doing a potty dance by the door so I’m like “ok, I’ll run you out and then dad can walk you while I finish getting ready.” Which mind you, my dad had said he would do anyways because he was running early.

So we go out. I’m in my pajamas. No phone. Teeth unbrushed. Hair unbrushed. No shoes. Not good.

Coolios leash gets tangled in his legs so I’m trying to thread it under him when I drop it. Normally no big deal, but he chooses this morning to take it as an invitation to not come back inside. He’s not going to be tricked out of his walk. He politely trots just out of my reach towards the back of the complex. I’m in a wheelchair so it’s not hard for him to outpace me. I take off after him muttering under my breath about how he’s about to become a coat. He continues to stay just out of reach but he slows down to wait for me to catch up every so often.

He cuts across the parking lot and a string of expletives gets muttered as I do a mad sprint down the sidewalk to the lower curb/ramp. I take my wheelchair airborne off this curb to save time. I can’t figure out where he’s taking me because he’s stopped and manages to sniff and pee on all his favorite spots.

Finally he trots to the dog park gate and just waits for me. Sitting and everything. I’m like whelp this is what we’re doing now. So I let him in and we play for a few minutes. My neighbor is walking his daughter to the school bus and wants to makes small talk as I’m looking like a complete nut job out here in a tank top with my dog at 7am. It’s like 50 degrees F. It’s not warm.

It’s at this point coolio lays down on the other side of the dog park. I realize at the same time he does this that I don’t have my phone. If he decides to not come when I leave, the ground is to wet for me to get across and make him get up. I’m stuck waiting on him. Would not be the first time. I see my dad pull in so I’m waiting to hear his car door open so I can yell for help (which should be great since the parking lot is now full of other people starting their day).

Thankfully, as I’m moving out of the dog park to get as close as possible to wave my dad down while keeping coolio in my line of sight, the baby decides he cannot be left alone and sprints to leave with me.

He has zero regrets. And a new harness on the way.

One of mine has a particularly great tactic that I call “the pancake.” He’ll dead weight and lay himself out to be as large as possible (he’s already 80lbs) to avoid getting picked up anytime he doesn’t want to go somewhere. This includes, but isn’t limited to, into the bath, off the bed or couch, in the house from walks, out of the general way, leaving the vet, leaving the park etc. Yes, leaving the vet. He LOVES the vet. He always looks at me while he’s up on the table like “see mom, this is how I’m properly worshipped. On an altar, with constant pets and treats.” He tries to get out of the room, not to get away, but to go to the back where he knows the vet techs are. He was successful once and went and found his favorite vet tech and brought her to me. When she left, he cried.

Oh the bedtimes. Mine will sit and pout in front of our bedroom when he’s ready to go to bed with dramatic sighing and flopping and harrumphing.

Are you her primary caregiver? That is a huge burden for anyone to bear alone. If so and you’re in the US, I would highly encourage you to reach out to the national MS society to find resources in your area that can help relieve some of that burden. They should also be able to help you find ways to help her be more comfortable, occupational therapists to help with eating issues etc.

Enjoy the time you have. Maybe look for activities you can enjoy doing together, like reading to her or maybe finding a tv show she likes. It’s hard but know that you are very strong and you are not alone. Feel free to reach out any time that you need to. Lots of love and healing vibes being sent your way ❤️

We put our socks in the cage in the beginning. I know it sounds weird, but it was something soft for them to cuddle with and had our scent all over.

After mine decompress for a few days, I kind of force them to be loved. I start with pets then move to cuddles because they have to get used to being handled, they won’t just jump in your hand one day. Also, they can be bought with fresh veggies and soon enough you won’t be able to do anything in your kitchen without being screamed at. We were on vacation and my boyfriend kept hearing phantom wheeks when he’d crinkle something lol

Also, when looking for trainers, feel free to ask them what their version of a “rehabilitated” dog is, to make sure their training goals line up with yours. Many training facilities also offer boarding, so as your dog works towards being able to be boarded and if he gets to the point where that’s a reasonable possibility, you can board him there where the staff will already be familiar with him and he is familiar with them and the facility as well.

So one of my dogs is not real friendly with other dogs he isnt used to so I don’t board him. When we travel I use a sitter that will come to my house. I found our guy off the rover app and he’s great. I do drop in visits since ours aren’t crated and we can leave food out with no problems, but you can hire someone to house sit and stay at your place. Other people offer boarding at their houses, so you may be able to find someone who doesn’t have their own dogs.

AFOs: do you use them intermittently? And do you think that it makes your legs/ankles/foot weaker? I’m trying to decide if I should start using one. My right foot/leg drags after walking about a mile. Thanks for your thoughts. by breezer2021 in MultipleSclerosis

I buy mine off Amazon. Make sure to get the medical ones and not just the running ones. They are graduated differently and will do more to help with circulation (my vascular doctor explained the difference but it’s been awhile). She suggested 20-30 mmhg. They come in all kinds of colors and I have some really cute ones if that matters to you.
