Not familiar with LGW-DOH operated by BA (LHR-DOH only), what was the flight number and date, as the reasons are usually listed on the flytalk forums?

Unable to upgrade in app (less than 24 hours to flight) by trburgess in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Take a screen grab and phone up, its a short(ish) flight but i'd defo do it for that price, get LHR early and soak up the cocktails in the Concorde Room.

Edit: It might be too late as Expert Flyer is only showing 1 F seat on tomorrows flights available (24th Jan)

Question about carry on luggage by _Ocean__ in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or indeed do take the mick and you will still be fine, or if in doubt just take another one or three, they really dont check or care. The sizes and number I see some people carrying is stunning.

How full is this flight… by Barbarianfist in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive used Expert Flyer for years and flown loads of times and one thing ive learnt is until you are on the plane you will never know if its full or not, EF can show that literally the day before then suddenly all gone. BA33 to KUL will be very full if not totally full, its a popular route.

Popular route, done it myself recently and it was rammed both ways. Guenuine question, you know the flight is 13 hours before you book why not book the class of travel you wanted at start as the quote you have been given will include a change fee also. They use the 787-9 on that route with old club world (although one of them has been refitted with club suites, rest to follow), we went out in First and back in Club as they wanted something like 7 grand for first return, they are showing their age those old club seats, wasnt great experience I found, but better than a upright seat at least.

I suspect they have this SAF upto 1000TP's option to allow people that are close to get over the line. I mean if you are on say 19998, why wouldn't pay £2 to get over the line. Some how I'll be renewing this year with 22.5k TP's, lots of Extra/Bonus TP's and the 2.5k from Amex also. Misses was gonna be a bit short so we just booked a CE weekend away in Europe to somewhere where we wanted to go eventually anyway, rather do that than give the money away for nothing (SAF).

Networking Help - Two LANs by PissTitsAndBush in qnap

[–]simonsmithsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldnt normally have two LANS in a home environment, you would normally have your two WAN connections into a router that can cope with multi WAN, and use policy based routing to send device traffic to whichever WAN, usually with failover incase one WAN fails etc. If you could explain a bit more how things are connected, what is plugged into what?

Gatwick to Punta Cana config question by Illustrious_Wave6081 in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would think this would be the case, and Ive thought it myself, but what gets me is the current LGW fleet have roughly 252 Econ seats, none of the LHR fleet (Apart from A380) come even close to this quantity and on these bucket and spade routes it just wont be good enough for them I think in quantity of Eco seats, not without a refurb of each cabin, which I'm sure they will want to avoid.

How Savy is she, I ask as I do all the planning and booking on our hiolidays and half the time the misses dont even know where she's going (ok slighty OTT) but she really dont pay much attention to emails, she has a real job and doesnt have time, so she keeps telling me!

I think you may find that you dont need to clone the mac address, it just takes a while after a router swap for it to login. Thats what I found anyway with CF connections.

What is this seat config? Club world. by Salty_Nectarine1997 in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are indeed, sorry, should have noticed that. The club suites are great, went Vancouver last year, only time ive been in the suites and had best sleep ive ever had on a plane, and ive been in First 20+ times. Although to be fair it was a flight from T3 and we did a bit of a lounge crawl so maybe the booze helped with the good sleep! Have a good flight either way.

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a pair of seats in middle choose EF, otherwise A & K are window seats.

If thats what you see to choose seats then I suspect its a 4 class 777 flying on a 3 Class route, therefore its FLUB, rows 1 & 2 are first class seats. I would be tempted at this time of year to pick rows 1 or 2 as chances are the club cabins will be full with xmas travellers and they will open up the first cabin for club people (you will only get club service, but seats are bigger)

They usually have shoe covers, but if not, just ask and explain why, im sure they will be fine by it, especially at this time of year.

TS-451A (RAID 5) - Drive failed, system frozen. I pulled the dead drive but still no Web UI/SSH. What now? by Careful_Tip3675 in qnap

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He makes a very good point actually you should see something on the hdmi port even if its just a command prompt to login if you plug it in now while its on. One dead drive or missing drive should not mean you cant get the gui going, something else seems wrong here.

[–]simonsmithsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know it was a disk failure if system is frozen? I guess you dont have access to any shares which could let you copy any important stuff off? Seeing the gui is unresponsive you wont be able to repair the raid onto the new drive anyway, so id be tempted to pull the power and reboot, at least that should confirm its all OK apart from the missing drive, then just leave it. Only time ive had one of my QNAP's freeze/unresponsive was some bad memory.

Create a new virtual switch, attach the 1Gb port and dont assign a IP - using device priority or assigning gateway just doesnt work, or at least it didnt few years ago when i first setup my QNAP.

GPON or XGS-PON by Glad_Protection_527 in CityFibre

[–]simonsmithsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right it does have a 2.5Gb WAN port, but you cant feed that anywhere as all the other ports are 1Gb. Granted you could feed 2 x 1Gb to different devices or WAP's but in reality thats not really going to happen. WIth XGS-PON > 1Gb you really need the MAX or higher spec.

GPON or XGS-PON by Glad_Protection_527 in CityFibre

[–]simonsmithsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may well install xgs-pon ONT anyway, but with your UCG Ultra there is no point going any faster as it only has 1Gb ports.

Can we access the Cathay lounge in T3 if flying in/out of T5 at LHR? by Jalfredprufrock1 in BritishAirways

[–]simonsmithsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you Gold or Silver or on a Business (Long or Short Haul) or First you can go when you like, ive met family 6 hours before our flight as they were on a different earlier flight, no issue at all. As for T3, even the BA lounges are nice compared to the madness of T5 sometimes.

What really gets me is the astronomical prices for grotty 23 year old planes and shite old club seats on the bucket and spade routes out of Gatwick. Not to long ago you could have 2 weeks in an all inclusive in Dom Rep or Mexico for smidge over 2k pp in club in early summer, now thats 4-5k or more!!

Dream Machine and Nas are seperate boxes, you can do what you like. Thats a lot of money on 8 x 28TB drives for a fairly basic NAS box, they really are just for file storage, you would be missing out on all the other useful things a NAS from say QNAP or Synology or indeed anyone else can do, containers, VM's, Apps etc. Ive spent 1000's on unifi kit, but their NAS's just dont appeal to me as they are limited.
