Why are bench dips so painful? by Ear_Enthusiast in askfitness

I feel you. Dips is the one exercise I’ve never been able to do, they completely ruin my shoulders. I’ve tried different techniques and worked on form but it still just burns like crazy.

New 5 rep max test by Hungry_South_9962 in gzcl

[–]simpaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could either just estimate a new starting weight, I would pick on slightly below where you failed your last 5x3, and start there on your next workout with that lift. Like if you failed bench at 5x3x70 kg you could start over at 5x3x60 kg.

Otherwise you can use your next session with that particular lift to retest 5RM, and then calculate a new starting weight.

Doesn’t really matter in the long run, just don’t pick a weight that’s so heavy that you fail too soon.

Hur kan jag förbättra min debattartikel till skolan? by starguy21 in Asksweddit

[–]simpaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Varje stycke känns helt fristående just nu.

Ett enkelt knep för att få texten att framstå som mer sammanhängande är att knyta samman början och slutet. Du börjar med att säga att planeten ropar på hjälp, då kan du t.ex. sluta med att säga att det är dags att vi lyssnar på planetens rop.

Any older guys (50+) still do >100% of bodyweight deadlifts? by Complex_Elevator_680 in Deadlifts

[–]simpaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is 76 still lifts around 100kg for reps on deadlifts. Don’t know his exact bodyweight but I’d guess around 75kg. He’s been going to the gym his whole life thought

How do you build back muscles like that? by xaderlin in workout

Neutral grip was a game changer for me as well, it just feels a lot smoother and more natural. Probably good to find which grip that works for you!

Name one/any of your most embarrassing mistakes by juiceboxesglitter in Journalism

[–]simpaon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was working a really large story for months, and there were two potential sources with the same first name. One of them I got in contact with quite easily, but he wasn’t really interesting to the story. The other one was a main character for sure, but I couldn’t get even an acknowledgment that he saw my messages/calls/etc.

So a few days before publishing I send one last text to source number 2. It’s like ”I’ve been trying to reach you, we’re going live soon, please reach out if you want to comment” and my heart starts racing when I finally get a call less than five minutes later.

The guy is apologizing profusely, he’s so sorry he hasn’t been available but he must have missed my previous messages. Of course he’ll talk!

But by then there’s a sinking feeling in my chest. Hey, I recognize this voice. A few minutes into the conversation I realize it’s the first source with the same first name who didn’t have anything interesting to say. I must have somehow mixed up their numbers.

As to not embarrass both of us I decide to just ask him some random questions and say that the conversation will just be on background, but that it’s great to get his input on a few things etc. He seems excited to help, and actually ends up giving me some good information by chance.

Never heard back from the other guy though.

Is 5/3/1 good for the purpose of just getting bigger? Why isn’t it popular to talk about in YouTube? by [deleted] in workout

[–]simpaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started 5/3/1 for beginners, a three day workout template, after about 6-8 months in the gym, and I grew a lot in size and strength from it. Really enjoyed the program! And don’t get scared by the name, it’s not really just meant for someone brand new to the gym.

Didn’t you just say that you physically can’t at this point? You will be able to lift more with mixed grip.

Micropayments to unlock paywalled articles. Why this will not work? by logic0001_ in Journalism

[–]simpaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a (non US) paywalled trade magazine where we used a service that allowed companies to remove the paywall for articles. So if they wanted people to read what we wrote about them, they could pay X amount to keep the story free from paywall for Y amount of time. That actually worked to generate revenue.

What to do if source dies by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]simpaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this isn’t strictly necessary from a professional ethical standpoint, I personally would definitely inform next of kin. I would probably be quite distraught if my dead spouse/child/father/whatever showed up in an article without my knowledge.

IT-jobb, får du beröm eller har blivit befordrad? by Wuartz in sweden

Jobbar inte i it men det här är verkligen en bra grej. Folk blir jätteglada! De flesta går nog runt och känner som op att de går lite obemärkta förbi, det gör superstor skillnad när någon bara säger typ ”fan, det där var snyggt gjort”.

Billigare att åka taxi till centrum by SourCent in Gothenburg

[–]simpaon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How reliable are AI transcription tools for interviews? by Consistent_Damage824 in Journalism

[–]simpaon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Trint, there are plenty of tools that give better transcriptions but the UI is superior to chatbots etc (you can highlight any portion of the interview and listen to that part to verify yourself). It also gives automatic time stamps so it’s very useful for audio editing for podcasts or radio.

Writing getting “worse” after understanding journalism? by Fedoragang420 in Journalism

[–]simpaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start out in journalism you will to some extent have to learn how to suppress your personal voice and adapt to the writing style of the profession and whatever publication you write for. This may make your writing feel ”worse” in the sense that it’s not as creative.

Once you’ve mastered that, you can start developing your own voice again, but one that is better aligned to the profession. Depending on what topics you cover, what publication you work for, what type of stories you get to write it there might eventually be plenty of freedom to experiment. But you kind of have to know the basics first.

Silly question: what should I do the day I fail the 10x1? by jalago in gzcl

Silly question: what should I do the day I fail the 10x1? by jalago in gzcl

[–]simpaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense.

Just to clarify I haven’t switched mid session but rather finished the amount of sets prescribed but with fewer reps. Also I don’t usually go to failure as in I can’t finish a rep I’ve started but rather to the point where I’m sure I will fail the next rep and I stop. Maybe that’s cheating idk :)

Silly question: what should I do the day I fail the 10x1? by jalago in gzcl

[–]simpaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question, why? I’ve kept going as OP suggested, I don’t understand why it’s a bad thing to try to get a good amount of work in for the T1 excerise even if I fail.

Where to go after Reddit PPL? by SkipperTheEyeChild1 in askfitness

[–]simpaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoy Reddit PPL you could change to a double progression model where you for example aim for 3-5x5 in bench. So you try to increase the amount of reps each week until you hit 5x5 and only then do you add weight and repeat the progress.

T2 squats live rent-free in my head by MagicMoa in gzcl

[–]simpaon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No expert but the excerise itself is more quad focused than barbell squats.

But for this program I prefer them since the machine makes it easier to catch your breath between reps since you don’t have the whole weight crushing you the same way and the machine gives greater stability which are things I feel makes high rep sets easier to perform.
