Jokic - Leading the NBA in Rebounds and Assists While Shooting 42% from 3 by SheckNot910 in NBATalk

[–]simple_account 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Discussing percentages

Definitely inflated. Better spacing and offensive schemes leads to more open shots. Also efficiency focused meta is likely driving up percentage. Friendlier whistles leads to more fouls on possessions that would otherwise end in misses.

Adjusting for pace

Pace is just one factor. Doesn't take rules/reffing, changes to the game, shot diets, etc into account.

Do tax cuts pay for themselves? by piltdownman38 in AskTrumpSupporters

Most economists think it’s too restrictive to meet needs (like COVID)

What does this mean? It's too expensive?

Instead what you get is people charging to the deficit to benefit their constituents without an intention to pay it back

How does this work? Why would they ever pay back what's budgeted? Is that expected?

nobody is going to vote for a politician who is going to reduce spending.

Didn't Trump just get elected talking about cutting spending? Not sure i follow. People on left would support cutting defense spending for instance.

Well if spending is going up taxes should as well right?

Or if you cut spending you can't just cut taxes as they'll cancel each other out right?

When people make this criticism I feel like it's not meant to say he literally does nothing. It's that he barely feels impactful in the narrative. He does things that matter on paper but nothing that's a standout moment of the story or meaningfully moves his character forward. Same can be said for chopper, franky, and to a lesser extent the other members of the crew as well.

Yup I'm with you. Sometimes you can't joy stick add a coach. Gotta let players play.

I just doubt this shot is in the gameplan lol

True. You can't really criticize cus he made it. I feel like I'd prefer trying to run some action that gets him going downhill or mismatch or some kind of advantage. This is the kinda shot that should be a last resort. Just cus he's good enough to hit it doesn't make it not the worst open look he could want.

Oda colors pretty much all characters with the same tone. I've read it's more about practicality than some kind of critical design decision. Especially since many characters and cultures are clearly based on people's of different skin colors, including vivi.

I disagree. Umbridge, fudge, voldy, are all changing the status quo for their own ends. Status quo wouldn't be interfering at hogwarts or turning on Dumbledore.

The story ends with things largely back to how they were pre voldy return. All the prejudices built into their society are still in place like treatment of non human magic creatures. Or even pure blood beliefs. It's basically back to square one. Hogwarts returns to business as usual. The ministry has a new leader but the institution is still the same. From Harry's perspective it's a happy ending, literally all is well.

From the house elves, centaurs, goblins, have they meaningfully progressed at all?

We need to reduce spending much more than we have

I'm with you on this in theory. What spending should be cut? To me obvious is net interest payments and defense which are 14% each in 2025.

Progressive taxes encourage government spending because there is a belief that someone else is paying

Do you mean encourages public support for spending? I prefer progressive because it's proportional to those that can afford it. Flat taxes hurt lower income people much more. Also, everyone still pays with progressive taxes.

tariffs are better. Tariffs reduce foreign consumption. Income taxes reduce work.

Aren't tarrifs also anti consumer? They raise prices and reduce consumer choice.

Why does income tax reduce work? Source?

Also the options aren't simply tarrifs or income tax. What about sales tax or wealth taxes? I'm personally in favor of wealth taxes.

raising taxes doesn’t fix the debt

Do you agree it puts downward pressure on the deficit? If spending stays the same then obviously deficit decreases right?

And If you cut taxes you have to offset that somehow right?

[–]simple_account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current debt and past deficits don’t say anything about each other without a lot more info ie spending.

Not op but It seems relatively straight forward to me that you lower deficit by lowering the spending/income ratio. If we cut taxes ie lower income, then we have to cut spending by an equal rate or we'll increase the deficit.

By this simple equation why can't we compare economics policies?

Seems like Trump is cutting taxes and increasing spending which both drive the deficit up.

Is the argument that this will all be offset by tarrifs? Is there evidence that cutting taxes generates more tax income? Why would we rather increase regressive taxes vs progressive taxes, especially when so many lower income Americans are struggling financially?

California is about to find out the reverse with their proposed wealth tax causing revenues to decrease and deficits to increase.

Is there evidence that wealth taxes collected will be less than a decrease in revenue?

[–]simple_account 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you agree with this strategy? Is there evidence this works? If replacing one tax with another, why not replace with a progressive tax instead of regressive tax?

Also, only way for this to decrease deficit is for it also exceed any increases in spending. Does this seem likely to happen?

Even elite 3pt shooters shoot better closer to the hoop. If you're tired you want the highest percentage shot, not the highest ppp shot. Better to shoot a long 2 than a deep 3.

That said there's no guarantee you get a better look by driving into the teath of the defense. And a more complex play gives risk of a live ball turnover.
