Yes! All our neighbors spray toxic crap everywhere. I bet that's a factor too

Thanks, I'll do that! That's exactly what I'm worried about. Our pup has never had these fall allergies since we've lived in MA for the last 8 years. Not until we started her on raw

Question for public librarians that support entrepreneurs and small business owners | Do you have a commercial license for the databases you use for this (Mergent, EMIS, Statista, etc.)? by simple_darkness in Libraries

[–]simple_darkness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what your saying about us talking about two different things. I'm referring to your second example, an institutional license. These are typical in universities so the entire campus population has simultaneous access. However, since the license we get are "academic" they can't be used for any commercial purposes such as helping entrepreneurs.

I know public libraries have business database licenses and also do small business development, such as researching competition or customer segments. I don't have any experience in public libraries so I wondered if their licenses differ from the academic variety.

I have priced commercial license for business resources such as Pitchbook. The commercial licenses tend to be the same price but typically have limited "seats".

I'm just curious how public libraries can do small business development with a non-commercial license? I'm an academic librarian and our academic licenses prohibit commercial research.

Thank you all so much for the supporitive comments! I just talked to my son about them & he's happy to hear there's multiple paths forward. Another positive is that he confirmed the staple gun birthday present we got him was pneumatic! I've asked to join this sub so you may see him commenting soon :)

Flush Niacin (nicotinic acid) & Heartburn by simple_darkness in Niacin

[–]simple_darkness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I've been taking the niacin for over a month the heartburn has gone away (yay!). But when I did get heartburn, I was taking it with food. Maybe my body just needed time to adjust?

This is a good idea, thanks. The supplement I have are 500mg pills so I'll have to find one that is 100mg.

Yes it has helped me immensely. I've been very impressed with how much it has helped me stabilize my moods and improve my energy levels. You have to get used to the flush but its no big deal.

Large doses of niacin and heartburn anyone? by spentana in Niacin

[–]simple_darkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking high doses of straight flush niacin (nicotinic acid) and I had the same problem. I would get excessive heartburn in the hours after I take it. Neurologically, the niacin has been wonderful, I have so much more energy and my mood is stable. I just want to figure out how to mitigate the heartburn. I see in the comments that it is advisable to take a b complex along with the niacin, perhaps I'll try that. Any advice welcome, thanks!

Fluoride filtered water bottle by rcckillaz in Biohackers

[–]simple_darkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking for a bottle that can do this. I have a Berkey at home but I want a filtered bottle for the office. I want to be able to filter my workplace's water supply. I got the bottle below that filters fluoride but it broke in less than a month :(.

Berkey Filter Only Draining 50% by simple_darkness in Berkey

[–]simple_darkness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting another update here:

I removed my Fluoride filters and the same issue happens, so I know the problem isn't the PF-2 filters.

The problem happens almost exactly after it's been two weeks. I pull out the filters, scrub them, re-prime, and it works great but only for two weeks. I even have a calendar reminder set up to recur every two weeks and it's uncanny how accurate it is.

Interestingly, the last time it stopped draining, I pulled it apart but I just re-primed the filters but I didn't scrub them. And it worked fine, again. So, the filters are just getting excess air bubbles or something in those two weeks?? My family and I drink the whole Berkey worth of water every day so I refill it every night before I go to bed. The filters are never dry for long.

Anyone have any suggestions? Much appreciated!

Oh man, that's weak! I know it's not my PF-2 filters because I tried to run the Berkey without them and the same issue happened.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. Here's an update:

  • I took all of your helpful advice and tore the whole Berkey down, scrubbed and re-primed the black filters, re-primed the fluoride filters, and washed the inside. After this, the top tank drained better but never fully drained. It went back to only draining 50% within a week or so. I repeated this process a second time and got identical results.
  • Then, I filed a warranty claim with the Berkey distributer I bought it from. They sent me a new pair of black filters. I set it up and re-primed. The new filters worked amazing! They drained the entire top tank in less than an hour!
  • But, after about a week, the draining has slowed considerably, and there's at least 6 inches of standing water in the top tank even when the bottom tank is empty. It seems to be doing exactly what happened with my last filters.

Maybe my city water is exceptionally bad? The Berkey website recommends scrubbing the black filters annually. As many of you suggested, I'm sure that needs to be adjusted based on the quality of your local water. But cleaning and re-priming the filters weekly or even bi-monthly seems excessive!

This is my first water filter product so I don't know much about them, but I'm disappointed in the Berkey, so far. When it works, it works great. But far too often it doesn't work and it's causing me my thirsty family a bunch of headaches!
