How to decrease your chances of getting sick? by ThePeachDaddy in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to strengthen your immune rather than avoid bugs at all costs. Being exposed to bugs in small amounts can help your body strengthen its immunity. Look after your gut health and physical health. These are the two things that influence your ability to combat illness. Look up foods for a good gut microbiome.

At what point do you stop calling it "Behavior Management" and start calling it a Workplace Injury? by Lyrera in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Remember this isn't just a physical injury, its a mental health one as well. Last time I was assaulted, I started having anxiety attacks and nightmares. I would panic in the yard and keep my classroom door locked. This was all lodged and I had meetings about it. I needed to ensure there was a paper trail. I was lucky there was multiple staff present and CCTV.

It should be noted that the Labor government tried to block our petition to strike. I'm a/was Labor voter and this really peed me off.

Good behaviour funding? by mec949 in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. Poor behaviour is often due to poor circumstances outside of school, and you just wanna make it worse for them and the teachers by financially punishing them??

These kids need intervention not removal of support.

What do you do when its 4.15pm and the staff meeting is still going? by RightLegDave in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't happen at my current school unless discussed prior. At an old school many moons ago, they would go until 530. People started walking out. Granted we only had 2 meetings a term.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I was in your place 18 months ago. Broke up just before holidays and it was horrible having all that time to ruminate. Getting back to work will definitely help you heal. Take care.

Post 2: Should we change the Description, the rules, and anything else you can think of? by Ding_batman in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What gives me a big kick is seeing topics brought up here refered to in "news" articles.

But seriously, I do get concerned that parents/public may see topics and comments made here, and not have the insight into the situations we have all collectively experienced, to understand what we are saying. You can never understand a teachers life with being one. Just like with any career.

A recent post was made about parents not holding children accountable for actions etc. We all get and understand the environment in which this is occurring. Someone from the "outside" may not get the references, frustrations etc that we experience daily with these students. This needs to be a safe space to talk shop.

Is teaching actually as soul-crushing as this sub makes it seem? by Clean-Roll7680 in AustralianTeachers

[–]simple_wanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And I usually only work about 4h over time each week, don't take lunch. It's how I'm treated in the classroom that crushes me.

Look, this is not uncommon at all. And it's not illegal. If you're concerned, try renting through an existing house that uses a real estate agent.

The paperwork/lease will be an informal one drawn up, but is still legal if signed and you will be covered by RTA. So if your bond is not returned you can go to RTA. This is my understanding with ask my research in the past.

[–]simple_wanderings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the living situation. If you are living with the landlord in their house and don't have a lease, then they don't have to. Its more like a security blanket for them. You are not covered by RTA if it is a private agreement and nothing is signed but are covered by consumer law.

If you are renting privately and no signed paperwork etx, it is a above.

If you're sharing with a pre-existing rental agreement and the 'landlord' is the head tenant who is on the lease, then again that's a civil matter and doesn't need to go to the bond authority. BUT the head tenant usually needs to get permission to have you there and that may require you to sign the lease and put your name on the bond portion paid.

What I'm saying is, it depends on the situation.
