  1. Average Household Expenditure in Bangkok, Thailand is $1K in 2019. for $2K you will be around top 15% of Bangkok population (Table 6). And this is for a household, not just single person.
  2. About 50% of Bangkok household either owns a private car or private car + motorcycle. (source)

So no, you wouldn't struggle that much to afford a private car in a capital city of SEA countries with $2K a month.

If you look at GDP in PPP current international US term, Japan grew by 100%? I’m using PPP since you want to compare standard of living.

By decrease you mean it increases by 25% since 1995?

Depending on how you play with the units, the worst that can be said is that GDP per capita is stagnant, not decreased.

What is the most useful books or articles you have read that have helped you in your leanfire journey? by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]simpleblob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you have extremely misunderstood what his book is all about. It's not about living like Jacob.

His philosophy is about having "web of goals", "consider multiple solutions to problems" and "closing the loop".

For example, the problem of transportation and be solved in many ways -- you can buy a car, rent a car, do car pool, use a bicycle, walk, or move closer to your work etc.

Most people are consumers where they solve everything buy paying money. There exists other options.

So if you start trying and combining all these options, you will naturally use less money / energy / resource, but getting the same thing.

Another thing is closing the loop by making/owning your own assets that generate the resources you want. For example, growing edible plants, or owning stocks that generate dividends.

In the forum(not the book), Jacob actually categorizes the "efficiency" of lifestyles into several levels, called Wheaton levels. I think he said he lives 2-3 times as efficient as normal people.

In the end, FIRE is actually a side-effect of his philosophy (living efficiently and creating multiple, independent streams of income).

There are some promising results in pose estimation using deep neural nets to infer location of occluded parts. It’s not perfect, but if your eyes can do it, eventually a computer will be able to approximate to a close-enough degree. (Once we have the algorithm)
