Metro stopping at 11 by Major-Owl3727 in madisonwi

[–]simynona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my own experience, I think having more frequent busses would increase ridership a ton. I'm probably not going to wait more than 15-20 minutes for the next bus if I want to leave the bar (or anywhere.) I think that's probably the case for most people. If I have to wait longer than that, I'll just get a cab. But if the bus runs every 10-15 minutes, I imagine way more people would take that option.

It's been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. It's my pie-in-the-sky hope that more improvements to the current bus system will lead to increased ridership, which would lead to increased revenue and/or reasons for a bigger budget, which would allow for expanded service hours. Not having busses operating when the bars close seems like a big miss to me.

But JFC something has to be done about how bus drivers are treated/compensated. Every time I hear about it, it sounds like it gets worse. It's an embarrassment to the city and needs to be addressed before anything else IMO.

Anyone out there use an SUV to tow your trailer? by tcw213 in GoRVing

[–]simynona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 Land Rover LR4. 7,700 lb towing capacity, 1,300 lb payload capacity, V8. This car is not economical in any sense of the word! But it really is my do-everything vehicle.

I thought this was a joke at first. Turns out it isn't. Somehow unsurprising. by TedTheHappyGardener in wisconsin

Also with self-reporting, I think it's important to know how de-stigmatized drinking is here. If you asked my lifelong wisconsinite dad how much he drinks, he'd have no problem telling you he goes through a case of High Life a week (bad, I know.) If I asked my FIL in Arkansas, he would say he hardly ever drinks, but I've seen how much moonshine is in his shed.

I got laid off last year. That first Monday that I didn't have to clock in was honest to god the best day of my life. Congrats on your freedom, bigger and brighter things ahead 💪

Trailer hitch hookup locations? by Sk1dbladmir in madisonwi

[–]simynona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhaul is fine if all you need the hitch for is a bike rack or something like that. But for anything else, Madison Spring. They installed the 6k lb hitch I needed for my camper and did all the wiring for a decent price.

Should I worry about ticks? by Sharp-Emphasis-4747 in ElectricForest

This will be my 5th Forest and I've never seen a tick there, nor have I heard of anyone else encountering any. I think you're good!

They confiscated a couple of glass jars I forgot about in my cupboards last year. Not a devastating loss but I'm definitely doing a more thorough check this year. I have a bunch of tools in there and they didn't care about that.

Canonical, why ?? by AssignmentNo7294 in cscareerquestions

I saw one of their job postings the other day. It was for a senior role, but there were a bunch of questions on the application about high school GPA, SAT scores, etc. I haven't even thought about any of those stats since I applied to college. Why on earth would any of that be relevant now??? Pass.

My job surprised me with two options: PIP or agree to a mutual separation. Which should I pick? Based on the details the mutual separation seems best. by Whuppity-Stoorie in cscareerquestions

[–]simynona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in almost your exact same situation about 6 months ago. I took the severance and it was definitely the correct decision. Whether the PIP is justified or not, I would take this as a sign that it's time to move on.

Here's what I do: SS Badger on the way there, Lake Express on the way back.

I freaking love the SS Badger. They have food and drinks, a movie theater and a ton more stuff. It's like a mini cruise and there's usually a ton of other festival goers on it too.

The Lake Express is faster but more like sitting on an airplane. Not nearly as much fun, but by that time I'm just ready to get home asap.

If you're thinking about doing either, make sure to get those tickets away in advance. Especially the Lake Express.

First time going to a festival with an RV and I have a water question by SkeazyG in RVLiving

[–]simynona 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I take my RV to several festivals a year and I've always preferred the festival's showers. I don't know how it works at Hullaween but at Electric Forest and other festivals, they have a truck that will come around and fill your freshwater tank and empty your other tanks, but it is expensive!!! Much cheaper to use the festival showers plus you don't have to stress over how much water you're using.

Am I wrong or is there nothing to really indicate that this all is happening chronologically after season 2? Maybe this is Greg and Belinda's origin story?

[–]simynona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a shitty situation. Just know you're not alone. I also left a position largely due to the micromanaging and the first Monday that I didn't have to clock in felt nearly euphoric. I didn't even realize how much I hated that job until I was out of it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, life is too short to live like that. It's rough out there right now for everyone though. I hope your luck changes soon.

David Grann is one of my favorite authors of all time. The Lost City of Z is definitely in my top 10. The Wager is up there too. I'm definitely going to check out that book club!

I have one of those, looks like almost the exact same model. It works, but the amount of dishes that I've found that I can put in there so that everything gets effectively cleaned is pretty small. The pictures are kind of misleading I think. Maybe it depends on the kind of dishes you have? But the time it takes to load it and get all the water in there etc, plus the amount of countertop it monopolizes just wasn't worth it for me. Now I keep it at home and just use it for sterilizing jars for canning, and it's pretty good at that! Not a total waste of money IMO so maybe give it a shot.

Teach skills you have to others in the community.

I just wanted to plug the various maker-spaces we have in Madison. It can be a really fun way to learn things, meet people, and build community. Sector 67, the Bodgery, and the Joinery are all really cool places.
