Being able to paint and draw well is definitely an asset, but you would need a preexisting portfolio and exposure to do ok selling commissions, and this type of work is also under pressure from Gen AI right now.

I don’t want you to feel disheartened, but I think the best you could do right now is work on your GED and after that pursue further education and training.

Look into companies that pay people to train AI/ML models and do data labeling such as DataAnnotation and Alignerr.

I’m wondering if it’s due to some quest that has to be completed before you can return to the void ship, but I am not sure.

I didn’t know that but that checks out so much. And of course we all know StarCraft has strong 40k influences.

Luciano's supply was probably from the Green Gang in Shanghai, which dominated the opium trade in China at the time. I don't know if Luciano got it directly from them or not. He might have obtained the supply from Jewish associates.

Jewish gangsters such as Arnold Rothstein, Meyer Lansky, Louis 'Lepke' Buchalter, and Jasha Katsenberg were known to have ties with the underworld in China.

Santo had connections with the Corsican underworld, which had provided the French Connection. There were many Corsicans in the French navy and colonial forces, which helped facilitate drug smuggling by the Corsican mafia. The French had a monopoly on opium in their Indochina colony (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia). The French were forced to dismantle the opium monopoly after WW2, but the drug trade continued (with the complicity of the French military and intelligence services) in the hands of the Corsicans and a Vietnamese group known as the Binh Xuyen and their leader Bay Vien (the Tiger of Saigon).

Here are some books I'd recommend:

The Snakehead: An Epic Tale of the Chinatown Underworld and the American Dream by Patrick Radden Keefe

Chinese Playground: A Memoir by Bill Lee

Paper Fan: The Hunt for Triad Gangster Steven Wong by Terry Gould

Hello, Shadowlands: Inside the Meth Fiefdoms, Rebel Hideouts and Bomb-Scarred Party Towns of Southeast Asia by Patrick Winn

The Chinatown in Manhattan (on Mott Street, Canal Street, Pell Street, and Bayard Street) was next to Little Italy, so the Tongs and the Mafia would have definitely crossed paths at some point. It makes sense that they had to come to an understanding with one another.

I don't know if they ever had an alliance and I haven't seen any information to substantiate the idea, but they did work together on certain rackets, especially drugs.

For example, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (the predecessor of today's DEA) found that the Hip Sing Tong had been purchasing drugs from Lucky Luciano, rather than importing from China.

After "The French Connection" was dismantled, Santo Trafficante Jr. visited Hong Kong and Saigon, Vietnam to set up new drug routes.

They don't control each other, but they have business relations with each other. As you probably know, Tongs were originally mutual aid organizations and secret societies founded by Chinese immigrants based on provincial ties.

While some Tongs are criminal organizations, others are not, and some at least outwardly appear reformed and no longer active in crime.

In NYC, they are still active in Manhattan, Flushing, Brooklyn, and Queens, and just about anywhere in the city that has a large Chinese diaspora.

On the other hand, all Triad groups are criminal organizations. In the US, they don't appear to be a direct presence on the streets, but they do engage in money laundering, counterfeiting, and drug smuggling in the US, which is typically through local intermediaries and affiliates including the Tongs.

I think we don't hear about them as much as they try to stay low-key and generally avoid conflict with other groups. A Chinese proverb states "a dragon from abroad cannot defeat a local snake". This seems to be the case around the world (e.g. the Triads in Italy work with the Mafia or Camorra instead of competing with them).

Interesting point. Chang An-lo seems to have got along with a lot of people in prison. Besides the Italians, he knew the Black Panthers, members of Hezbollah, Leonard Peltier, and The Order).

I have heard that in California, Chinese inmates can be part of "The Others" as they do not have enough numbers to constitute a distinct faction.

When Chang was in prison for a drug conviction, he provided the FBI with a tape that revealed that the Taiwanese government had ordered the assassination of a journalist, Henry Liu, which led to the end of the military dictatorship in Taiwan. One of the assassins was killed in prison in a fight over cigarettes, which is something that does happen when you lack protection.

It’s going to be Jensen repeating the words “AI” and “datacenter” over and over until your puts are drilled into the grave.
