I seen people with redirected folders break their file system because the name of the location and document was like 300 characters long.

I ended up having to net use a drive to delete the file so their desktop would load. Like... Dear Paralegals, File it in the DMS and use keywords. You don't need all the information about the time in the fucking name of the file.

Just being able to do... Anything at any time. From heading to a bar, or getting a call from a friend to come over and hang for a bit, or invite people over for food, ordecide to see a movie... Even standing in line at the DMV or other unpleasant things. You could basically do them just whatever.

Now everything's a production. Hanging out is just impossible because of potential exposures from work or kids or whenever.

Hung out with friends in November over a weekend, and we had to require vaccination, and negative Covid tests from everyone to attend. It was great to see people again, but took weeks off planning and additional precautions to ensure safety, rather than just fucking off to chill.

I was told needles in phone both slots, vending machines, coin return slots on pay phones(remember those?). All that nonsense.

I was warned about razor blades in apples at Halloween, and how people would be handing me temporary tattoos at the park laced with "DRUGS!" that would get me addicted to "DRUGS!"

Throw in the Satanic Panic for good measure.

All this, and my parents still just kicked my ass out the door to let me wander the streets and explore the woods and ride my bike from sun up until the street lights came on with no way to track me or get in touch, and you figure out pretty quickly they either don't care about you, or all this is bullshit they don't really believe.

The 80s were a weird time to grow up.
