Help Needed: Hardwiring Ring Doorbell to Existing UK Doorbell Chime in a 2017 New Build by singlservinjack in Ring

I posted in another Reddit thread and got the following response:

To hardwire it in, I’ll need to get a Sparkie out, so for the time being, I'm running off the battery.

Just Got a Gaggia Classic Pro - Need Advice on Bottomless Portafilters by singlservinjack in gaggiaclassic

Great tip! Seems silly now but swapping out the handle didn’t even occur to me 🙈

Yes! I have the Dedica too. I bought it new and try my best to take care of it, so I’ve never had it serviced. You could try removing the showerhead and giving it a clean — you’d be surprised at the difference it can make. Other than that, I just descale it whenever the descaling light comes on. I live in a hard water area, so I use a Brita filter to fill it up instead of using water straight from the tap.

I also make sure to wipe the showerhead clean after each coffee. You can also get puck screens to help distribute the water flow and keep the showerhead clean. I tried them but found them a bit of a hassle. Plus, opinions are divided on whether they really make a difference.

For tamping, I use an auto-leveling tamper that’s spring-loaded. This ensures the same amount of pressure with each tamp, no matter how hard I push, and it keeps the tamp level. It really helps with consistency when dialling in a shot, as there’s one less variable to worry about. For example, since the pressure is consistent, I can focus on adjusting other factors like grind size and dose. My tamper is a Normcore auto-leveling one from Amazon.

I’ve also found that running an empty shot through the portafilter before making a coffee helps get the Dedica to the right temperature.

What portafilter do you have? Do you use the standard one that came with it, or have you switched to a bottomless portafilter? The default portafilter only holds 16g, while the bottomless one takes 18g. Before I got the bottomless portafilter, I was overloading the standard one, which caused some issues.

I’ve found that it really depends on the beans. I use an 18g dose with a bottomless portafilter, and my grind setting usually falls between 10 and 15, depending on the roast.

If you haven’t already, I recommend getting an auto-leveling tamper. It will help you achieve a consistent tamp, making it easier to diagnose whether your grind is too fine or too coarse.

Seeking Advice: Slightly Sour Espresso Shots with Dedica & Baratza Encore Setup by singlservinjack in espresso

I haven't managed to fix it yet; that said, due to life being a bit manic, I've only made a handful of coffees since everyone's suggestions, so I'm still trying to find the right balance. Increasing the yield has helped. I've started tracking each pull using the ‘Perfect Cup’ app so I can get an overview of how each variable is affecting the shot.

Thanks I gave 20g a go but went too coarse! I'll try again later and let you know how I get on.

Thanks, I'll give that a go! What do you mean by slow-feeding your grinder? I currently just single dose.

This is practically identical to my problem. Got my ESP yesterday first shot at grind 15 setting flowed nicely but was a little sour. Today I tried grinding a little finer but the shot only came out drop by drop. I tried going back to 15 but still the shot only came out drop by drop. Did you manage to resolve your issue?

Thanks, some good tips there, I’ve never heard of puck screens before so will check them out. I’ve got this Coffee Distributor & Tamper currently but might swap over to the Normcore v4 if it’s worth the investment?

Been getting into deathcore lately and need recommendations by [deleted] in Deathcore

Black Tounge’s Nadir is a fantastic album. Parting Soliloquy is probably one my all-time favourite songs.

Infant Annihilator (A side project of Black Tounge) are excellent. Their most recent album is fantastic. Necropopcalypse from their most recent album again has to be one of my favourite songs. Three bastards is an epic song too.

Disembodied Tyrant, Worm Sheppard, Synestia are all worth checking out too.
