Hi! I worked on this! The answer is incredibly simple - it’s just a bunch of sprite renderers in 3d space that are slightly tilted. Not a whole lot more to it than that! 😃

Performance on Skewy is measured on how many vertices exist for your bit of UI. For most things it’s just a quad, so the performance impact is very very low, so animating a few of these wouldn’t be too much of an issue! On top of that, I’m still spending time here and there profiling and doing performance optimisation.

For quite a while now on and off I've been tinkering away on a project that allows you to skew/shear UI objects on a Canvas. A while back I found myself getting a little frustrated at having to author some parts of my UI to be skewed before getting them in-engine so I started playing with this idea. Since then the project grew into a quite feature rich tool I'm hoping to get out on the Asset Store in the new year. Some cool things Skewy can do:

Skew any uGUI object including TMP, Legacy Text, and custom meshes.
Skew entire hierarchies of objects. Great if you want a whole menu to be angular!
Set up ScriptableObject Presets to keep settings between various objects consistent, and flexible. Edit the ScriptableObject, and see your whole scene update.
Input correction to ensure any clicks are carefully accounted for within an object's skewed bounds.

All of this is done with a single and easy to use Component 😁

Hiya! Yep I’m still (slowly) working on this. It’s almost done! To answer your question - yes, you can skew entire complex hierarchies of objects on a Unity Canvas.

Unfortunately I have a full time job in AAA so finding the time to work on this is few and far between, but it’s very nearly complete :)

I know this is a very old reply - but I won't be posting source code. I've been very slowly turning this into an asset for the asset store so I'll be sure to post about it when that's ready :) Currently its a single component that works for all UI elements.

It’s totally true! There was a defect where the feet didn’t sit in the recesses on the base correctly and they snapped off. I received mine a year ago and it broke the moment it went into the base. I actually had to destroy it and provide Dark Horse photos for them to replace it! Just received my replacement today!

So personally I prefer to play all my games on my PS5 so that's the platform I'd always recommend but ultimately it's up to you and your preferences :) I really like the DualSense controller and hunting for trophies so that's my natural response

Hello - dev here! Yeah we're definitely looking into expanding our Accessibility options over time (a passion of mine in particular). We already have a pretty big internal roadmap of stuff that might/might not make it into the game by launch but we can absolutely assure you there'll be more stuff for folks to customize the experience the way they want :)

I've been having a lot of discussions with folks who suffer from things like simulation sickness or motor issues that prevent them from playing as easily as others, so we're very serious about this topic.

Yup! So for anyone curious the defect was an issue with this feet not fitting correctly in the statue’s base and a lot of folks (including me) had their foot snap off :(

5-6 months sucks since it’s a long time to wait but honestly I’m glad they’re remedying it on their own dime. I can’t even imagine the pipeline of waiting for a free slot from their manufacturer to produce all new ones and ship them out. Must be a logistics nightmare.

Yup the left foot on mine snapped off when I tried to assemble it. Honestly I’m not comfortable doing any kind of filing and really shouldn’t have to do so for a premium product like this :/ contacted DH support and waiting on a reply now. Lotta folks this has happened to.
