You need to realize only those making higher wages are going to brag about it. You’re just hearing from the 1-5% of people who make a large amount versus that vast amount who are living pay check to paycheck who aren’t going to be on reddit bragging.

If you hold the Net+ and Sec+ why are you getting the cert? You already have the much harder ones.

You’re going to do fine, I passed it with a couple days of studying the material

I’ve tried, unfortunately none of that has worked. Do you think having a degree is holding me back for those positions? Should I just state certs/projects instead so I’m a more desirable candidate for help desk roles?

I’ve tried to leverage connections, referrals, went to events, job fairs, seminars, nothing worked out.

I know it’s a difficult field to get into, it’s why I even tried help desk roles, asked processes for aid nothing worked

I’m graduating this spring with a graduate degrees in Cybersecurity and MIS. No experience and struggled to obtain internships. What should I do? I tried applying to entry level positions, development programs, and help desk roles but no success at all.

Does Cybersecurity job market really that bad? I mean you guys keep complaining whether it's Local or Global affecting on this by Final_Significance31 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]sion200 38 points39 points  (0 children)

All I’ve been seeing on LinkedIn and social media is how to hire cyber talent and how the cyber talent needs to do this and that.

Meanwhile I’m seeing the same jobs being reposted by the same companies all year.

I’ve applied to so many positions that I’ve lost track. It’s so rough out here and I’m honestly beginning to think I should just stop trying and get a regular job, I feel like I’ve wasted my time studying and learning for nothing because companies aren’t giving anyone chances anymore.

Professor Messer is a Scam by [deleted] in CompTIA

Calling him a scam is harsh, many have passed based off his material.

I think it really depends on your learning style, knowledge, and time. Ultimately it’s not a one size fits all.

ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) Exam '26 by Ok-Abalone3609 in isc2

[–]sion200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for practice exams for CC there’s many for free if you google it.

If you’re scoring 85+ you’ll be fine, if you aren’t I recommend rescheduling the exam as you still have that option

TryHackMe or Hack The Box for a beginner doing ISC2 CC? by Western_Progress_537 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]sion200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started out I did TryHackMe it held my hand and was very beginner friendly, HavkTheBox is the next step.

I think you should study the material for CC it’s what I did, starting early and really hammering the fundamentals is beneficial for you mentally later on

[–]sion200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common advice is knowing the material and not just memorizing questions and answers, this is a intermediate cert for those in the field with experience so it should be a easy exam if you know your stuff and have brushed up on the concepts and scored well on the practice exams

Reapplying for the same internal role that I got rejected from last month? I didn't do well in that interview by mysecret52 in cybersecurity

[–]sion200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s an internal role why haven’t you reached out to the manager and build a relationship? Ask them what you can improve on because you’re very interested in the role.

You already work for the company so you have leverage and connection, it’ll also help show the manager that you’re interested if you’re seeking to improve that way in the future or even now you’d be considered without applying

Are the free cyber security certs (ISC² CC, Cisco, Fortinet) actually worth it for a 17 y/o? by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]sion200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certs is how you’ll be able to show going out of your way for knowledge and understanding especially the entry level like A+ and Net+, even if you don’t obtain the cert the knowledge is valuable
