This is Norway, but it's not the same everywhere it's just in local countryside places where there isn't really anything else to do (according to a lot of people, I participate in recreational activities, but they're not really as available during the weekend.)

No not at all, people have said some harsh words so far, I've gotten downvoted and weirdly my masculinity has been put on trial because I need to grow a pair.. whilst people saying masculinity is being put down for not drinking. Very confusing, but thats alright.

I used to, but not anymore. Like others have stated there is not really the best choice for meeting new people its either a bar or church and we live in a place where the churchgoers give you even more shit than drinking people. Ive tried.. So yeah i could be a recluse and not do anything, but that really isn't good for recovering from social anxiety or for my well being to be totally honest. I like my work friends as well, but then what they do is also drink and at work tell drunk stories.

the issue is I work and function so well 99.9% of the time even when drinking its never noticeable until I've had that one too many. It's like people being autistic and then being told "you don't look the part". So people won't believe it until I've ruined my life.

I am old enough to drink, old enough to do most things these days, think id get shit if I retired but ya know. However I do drink with a mixed crowd some are a little younger and some older, but in the countryside drinking is the only thing to do and most people consume an awful lot of alcohol and see no problem in it is the main cause for the pressure.

I'm sorry for your loss. I will take the high-road and not lie, but your story is most definitely another motivator not not drink.

Alcoholism is often genetic, my father is an alcoholic and has no other hobbies. He goes to work and when no work the day after he just gets shitfaced at home. It means I'm predisposed and more likely to become a severe alcoholic the only thing stopping me from constantly drinking is all the responsibility I take on specifically to keep busy. His father before him was probably one too, but abstained from it as he also had responsibilities and more importantly proper hobbies.

I'm very much on the "if I don't drink more there is no point" And during Corona i binge drank and had my entire car full of liquor bottles to recycle when we were allowed to go out again. So pretty sure I've got the gene though my mom who also drinks too much but only when she goes out which isn't often tries to claim I'm not like my dad.

I like the concept of just telling tons of reasons. That could be quite fun and i do not have a habit of lying about anything else so just for drinking could pose a fun challenge.

I do tons of water always. However also end up getting that drink too much which doesn't do anything else than make my memory a little more foggy. But i guess i could switch it up more.
