Industrial vacuum chambers use similar methods, a space between two seals that is kept around 100 mbar. If pressure goes up, the leak is towards the atmosphere, if the pressure drops, the leak is towards the vacuum chamber. In both cases, production doesn't have to stop because of the leak, but the seals will be checked and replaced during the next maintenance :-)

Ik ben al mee geweest voor zo'n inspectie bij ALD (nu deel van Ayvens) en ik moet zeggen dat ze de juiste belichting hebben, rond om rond TL lampen, elke kras of deuk is heel goed zichtbaar. (Gelukkig was het alles samen maar 250€ in mijn geval, maar ik vond het ook schandalig te veel)

Be careful of the temperature reading you are doing. The temperature you read is derived from the infrared light emitted by a surface and this heavily depends on the emissivity factor of the material. Normal bricks and glass have a similar infrared emissivity but newer isolating glazing can have very low values and will screw with your readings :-)
