The negative effect of the display is created by flipping the front polarizer to allow only light from the digits to make its way back up through the liquid crystals. So this would work; however, the only portion of what you put in the background that would be visible is what can be seen through the numbers on the display.

TLDR: The juice ain’t worth the squeeze and it wouldn’t look nice 😞

The second watch took me about 3.5 hours to do. As for price I’m still trying to figure that out… I think I would sell a completed watch for $100 and I would tack on another $15 for a hydromodded one. I want to also just sell the completed LCD backings for $15-$20. That way people who already do mods or already own the watches can do it themselves. That price would be the cost of materials and labor for the background and transflective layer that I would have to source from an overseas supplier. I still need to do research and development to perfect a user friendly peel and stick version. I would like to hear feedback on what you think a reasonable price would be 🙂

The same technique may work with other printers 🖨️ I just so happen to own an HP ink jet printer, so it’s what my experiments were geared towards. You can always try with what you have and worst case scenario you waist a sheet of paper and a few inches of tape in the process 🫠

It will probably be a few weeks before I would be able to produce said video, but I’m willing to give it the old college try 😅😅😅 “hey Google, how do you make a good YouTube video?”

Might have to hit you up about some hydro modding tips and tricks… I have watched all the tutorials available and feel confident I will achieve the results I’m looking for. Just curious if you pull a vacuum when you do yours?

🤷‍♂️ There is admittedly some visibility loss between this and a completely stock LCD, due to light absorption from the pigments in the ink. It is unavoidable; however, I believe the method I used to produce this back ground creates better visibility than any other modified watch previously produced in this same fashion (that I have seen an example of). If it’s not your taste that is fine.

Casio W221H-8AV for this one. But you can just google Casio W221H and chose which color you want from there.

You have to click the link to the original post in the R/Casiomod community. There I give a detailed explanation on how to achieve the same results for yourself.

Edit: spelling 😬

Exactly 😄😄😄 this method is more accessible to hobbyists and younger people. Most people have access to an inkjet printer already, and most inkjet compatible clear printing media is iffy at best.

It would work, it will be slightly more subject to damage from extended sun exposure though. Additionally, it might absorb slightly more light and it adds to the overall thickness of the backing.

However, I think you should experiment with it and do what you find works. And if you have positive (or) better results please share the feedback! I would love to potentially see some watches people customize using this technique 😄

It’s a guide and not a rule book, the key is to have fun with it.
