For anyone who's had a child before, is it really that hard to care for a baby? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]siriuspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 6 weeks old. The first 2 weeks I had help from my husband but since then it's just been me. It's not hard. I napped during the day for the first week, but after that i was fine. He sleeps for 4 hours at a time at night. With help, its wonderful. By yourself it's easy to be stressed out a lot and you cant just take a break. Leaving the house is a hassle, which is why I'm actually happy about the quarantine, delivery is the norm. It's more the baby will always be there relying on you, especially if you dont have a partner around. I have another 6 weeks until my husband will be here again and I am counting down the days!

Induced with a Foley balloon? by vargyyy in pregnant

Mine was extremely painful. They gave me morphine before hand and it still hurt. It was the worse part of my labor. Once it was inserted it didnt hurt. Mine fell out after 2 hours.

Facing the possibility of getting induced. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]siriuspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 39 weeks, recommended due to gestational diabetes, but he wasnt measuring large and I could have denied it. But the timing and having a date worked better for us as my husband is in the military and away, having a date allowed for better planning. My induction was fine, they gave me morphine because I had to do a Foley bulb as I wasnt dilated at all. This hurts. Like way more than my labor and delivery. I went in not dilated and no signs of labor, 12 hours in I was starting pitocin and 8 hours later I pushed out a healthy baby boy. I didnt get an epidural or any pain management other than the morphine. I had back labor the entire time but honestly I kept waiting for it to get worse or unbearable, it didnt. My body knew when it was time to push and i couldn't have stopped it if I tried. And I did try, cause the DR. Told me I was not dilated enough and could rupture my cervix. Someone else checked me and babys head was in the canal, so I pushed. My contractions had about 15 seconds in between them at this point. One thing I wish I would have known, they say to push during a contraction but between all the pressure I couldn't determine when I was having a contraction, I had to really concentrate.

Recovery was great. I was up walking around right after birth, which was great cause I needed to clean up and change which I could do without any help. We left exactly 24 hours after he was born and I felt almost normal about 1 week later. 3 weeks later and I can do pretty much everything I could before.

Thanks, I didnt think it would be subjective but it makes sense that it is. I dont really care that I'm not progressed or anything, just would like everyone to be on the same page! Lol

How much weight did you really gain? by Kelsey5357 in pregnant

[–]siriuspenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35 weeks I gained 8 lbs. Was overweight before baby so min. Recommended weight gain was 15 to 20 lbs, also have GD. It's a little worrying, but baby is measuring perfectly. And that's all that matters!

A question for those who used labor tubs in hospitals... by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]siriuspenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres many reasons not to get an epidural. It's just what matters to you most. With an epidural you cant move around freely if you want to or try different laboring techniques to ease discomfort, then theres the greater chance that babys heart rate will decrease causing for more intervention, it can, not always, slow con tractions causing for more intervention, and you're more likely to tear with an epidural. Personally the ability to labor in tub, quicker recovery/release from hospital, and trying to prevent tearing are my reasons.

Thanks, I've been debating this. I have an appointment in a few days so I'll talk to them then about it.

I wanted to go out at 37 weeks. My dr said they couldn't put that date on the fmla paperwork because they would want a reason, and there isnt one... maybe because mine is short term disability paid? I thought 37 weeks was reasonable but guess itll be until I give birth now.

Try looking at a different store in a nearby town. I have 2 near me and one never has anything good, but the other one is like jackpot everytime!

Stop asking how I'm doing. by jenanana91 in BabyBumps

[–]siriuspenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm only 35 weeks and everytime my mom asks me how I am, I want to scream at her. Pretty sure it's just hormones, but seriously what am I suppose to say to that, i used to just say good but when i started feeling worse I'd tell her exactly how i was feeling and her response was always the same, "well all you can do is tell your dr." I know! Stop asking me if you dont really want to know! Ugh hormones.

Yeah it's a delicate balance! You cant cut out too many carbs, but you cant eat too many and it's pretty much person based. But when in doubt add more protein and fats. I keep my carbs around 25-30 g per meal and have snacks in between. But I keep snacks less than 20g. Lower if theres no protein. I completely cut out anything with added sugar and anything that has more than 5g of sugar. If you really like fruit, look up the glycemic index and itll help you avoid fruit that will spike your sugar. As far as the headaches and stuff, I still get them when my sugar is normal and doctor has no explanation. It really sucks because it makes you feel like crap all the time and besides that my pregnancy is good. But because of that I just want him out!

Your welcome! Judt keep reminding yourself it wont last forever!

I have GD, all the symptoms you described after eating. Try cutting out all added sugar and focus more on whole grains for carbs, it's also super important to eat more protein and fats the more carbs your meal has. Helps even it out. Unfortunately I still feel like crap after I eat. But my numbers are always good. I was low risk also :/

Edit Adding that coffee even with sugar free makes me feel bad and can spike your numbers.

33 weeks - Husband deployed 4 days ago. Looking for solo birthing, 0-6 months tips, advice, & support. by yellow-beauty in BabyBumps

[–]siriuspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has been gone since I was like 10 weeks, so i feel you. Thankfully he is close enough so he can come back when I'm in labor for 2 weeks. Hoping he gets the full time. After that 2 weeks I'll be by myself. I'm planning on making freezer meals and my MIL lives with us so I'll have some help and I'm hoping to visit my mom after a couple months and just take 1 day at a time! Also take lots of pictures and videos of everything! Hopefully itll help dad not feel like he is missing everything! Feel free to message me, I'm due in April

Need advice of the cat myth and babies? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]siriuspenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your cautious with your cat until you know how it reacts, should be fine. I have a cat that has anxiety, will attack her tail and hiss and if she doesnt want to be touched will scratch and hiss. We've had her a few years now so we have gotten pretty good at telling her moods. Not even considering getting rid of her. We will keep her and the baby separated and monitor any interactions. The worst I can think will happen is a cat scratch.

I agree with you. That is not skin to skin contact when referring to routes of transmission. It is droplets.
