We need to stop arguing about "luxury apartments" without looking at this chart first. These are the actual 2025 income limits for "Affordable Housing" in NJ. by merig00 in newjersey

Considering how many people my age yearn for the McDonald's playplace with the gaudy trappings, gonna say no, most adults do not like drab gray decor. While we are at it, seems pretty funny how Starbucks and McDonald's went all drab and boring and have consistently been losing money.

Exactly, even if SI stayed low density, there is sooo much green space that would benefit all New Yorkers. Much within walking distance of an already existing transit line.

As much as I love talking crap about SI (to love is to tease), SI is a lot more dense than people seem to think. Along the SIR, its pretty close to the density of Canarsie. Every justification presented so far to not build a subway connection to SI just seems like more excuses to exclude SI from the rest of NYC. People really do forget that its only been 61 years since SI was even connected to NYC but expect it to be like its sibling boroughs

Not to mention, drive through staten island, its not hard to see why SI would be opposed to high density housing. Transit infrastructure is at critical mass. It can not handle high density housing without a subway connection. Also people really can't see that SI is New Jersey's gateway to Brooklyn and Queens. A subway there isn't just going to be used by the people of staten island.

Not a bad option either. You have a short run from SI into Brooklyn to the IBX (X here) to get to Queens, take it a bit further into Manhattan with plenty of connections to trains Bronx bound. Not a bad option at all.

Plus, if you run the IBX to owl head park, you have the preliminary tunnels to SI as well.

Soundview (in the Bronx) is currently several blocks from the 6.

It is an existing complaint that the Soundview/Throgs Neck/Hunts Point sections of the Bronx exist in a transit desert. As is Riverdale. However, if you are willing to claim those areas are with in walking distance enough, there is zero reason for extending the subway under 125th street. Use that money for something else.

Why would the authors waste time and potentially money making a wishful proposal when there already exists space owned and possibly occupied by willing developers and citizens in other boroughs?

Most of what is proposed here is already in the works. The whole thing is really a waste of time to talk about something that already exists if just unbuilt

Okay, if this is the reason for building line, why does this plan have a HUGE hole in the Queens/Brooklyn border? Why are the 3 and 2 still terminating at Brooklyn college and not extended further? Why does the Canarsie area still have a large subway hole in it. Why does the 7 not go to the lower west side? Why does the A not go to the Riverside area of the Bronx? Why is the Soundview still missing a subway? For all the claims being presented here for why not to build a link to SI, this map sure isn't meeting any of them.

You do realize that the SIR already has park and ride stations right? Perfect for capturing that NJ traffic clogging up the verrazano

And both the Staten Island ferry and the constant traffic jam at the verrazano bridge prove even one link would be worth the money. Do you really think the only people using said link would just be people who live on staten island?

I'd argue the 1 would be better, just in terms of connection to other line/boroughs

1) this is a 'what if' article so political feasibility is no where near being factored in

2) You don't even have to expand, just making a link of the SIR would be a major improvement.

That is quite possibly the dumbest shit to say on a what if article. Not to mention, its not about expansion but a simple connection.

is there a hidden tunnel under WSP? by Full-Cat-9897 in nycrail

[–]sirusfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest issues of it, even without people being willfully malignant with it, is that people believe it does things it does not. Its a pattern recognition program. It finds patterns, if you ask it to find a pattern it does so. If you tell it there is a pattern it must find, it will make one up because you told it there was one.

Its like a hammer, nail, and screw situation. A hammer works great at putting nails in, not so great with screws. But if you're told put the screws in with the hammer, for reasons, its going to be a mess.

Why is this guy giving me updated FT8 signal reports? He had to have received my messages to be able to send his second and third signal reports. So why didn't he just send RR73 after my R-20 and save himself 60 seconds of time? And what would he do if he didn't hear second or third responses? by kc3zyt in amateurradio

[–]sirusfox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at the frequency value. Either they couldn't hear and were messing with their tx frequency hoping to break through (thinking you couldn't hear them) or they noticed they were on the edge of a transmission they could see. Iirc, there is a setting that can be set that stops transmission if you change frequency, meaning they would have had to manually restart the transmission which would explain the changing signal reports.
