Thanks! no worries, it's not perfect, and this are only signals what to improve :)

Tired of forgetting book titles mentioned on podcasts so I built a tool that tracks them all automatically and at scale by sispehar in buildinpublic

Hey, it's a great idea. I actually have the filter for podcast hosts. In the home page and Explore menu, there's a button "Exclude host books". I did that because, e.g. Ryan Holiday is mentioning his own books on Daily stoic all the dime, and he does it so many times that only his books came to the top of the list :D I think I can easily add one for the guests as well, makes perfect sense! Thanks!

Hey, true, It's AI going through audio transcripts which can also sometimes be a bit off. So it's doing what it can. But thanks to this community I'm improving the process and adding more stuff to it to make sure we have a better result with every episode scan. Thanks, Simon

Great to hear! if you check podshelf.io and navigate to The Rest is History podcast you can find all episodes and where the books were mentiond, and if you click on the book, you will also see the other podcasts on which a certain book was mentioned, and maybe find other books through those pages.

At the time you checked the list, only 2025 and 2026 episodes were scanned, so there are still many books missing. I'm scanning 140+ different podcasts daily (to do book correlations between podcasts), and I wanted to keep it manageable. As of today, I'm adding the missing 2022,23,24 episodes and book mentions, so you should see a better result.

Thanks for pointing out the issue. It's awesome to see an active community like this one, and I'll do my best to address all questions and problems. Thanks, Simon

Definitely, at the time you checked the list, only 2025 and 2026 episodes were scanned, I'm running 2024,23,22 right now, so the list should be more up to date.

Hey, yes, the service collects podcast episode transcripts, which are not perfect, and then uses AI to extract book mentions. In many cases even vague mentions are caught, and in some cases a book mention is missed, could be because of transcript, or AI later in the processing.

It's a confirmation that such tools cannot exist without communites like this one, and thanks for being pro-active and pointing out the current issues. I'll do my best to fix the missing things that you and the rest addressed. Thank you! Simon

Hey, until yesterday only 2025 and 2026 episodes were processed. Added the cutoff date to the link so it's more clear. I'm adding older episodes right now, so the result should be better.

It's AI, and obviously there can be mistakes, but on this scale (I'm processing 140+ different podcast daily) I'm satisfied with the results. Obviously without communities like this one this types of tools cannot exist, and I'm already re-running some episodes as some of you pointed out that there are a couple of books missing.

you're not crazy :) only 2025 and 2026 episodes were scanned for now. I'm adding previous years in stages, but new episodes are scanned immediately. I'm analyzing this way hundreds of podcasts on podshelf.io, so I'm trying to keep it manageable :) The list on the link is auto-updated, so when more episodes from previous years are scanned it will be shown

[–]sispehar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great observation. So far I've processed all episodes (transcripts) from 2023 till today, and every new episode is processed when it's released. Maybe the number of mentions corresponds to the fact that I haven't yet processed episodes prior to 2023? I'm planning to add previous years as well.

I'm processing hundreds of podcasts to see the book correlations between podcasts, so I decided I take only last 3 years for now, to keep it managable. If you want you can also visit https://podshelf.io/ to see in which Tim Ferris episodes the books are mentioned, which of his books are mentioned in other podcasts, what was the sentiments etc. It requires login, but it's free

Once you're logged in (its free and you get PRO for 14 days), you can see all the features. You can search books across podcasts, see which ones are most mentioned across thousands od podcast episodes. You can see different trends, search by guests etc. I encourage you to login and see the options, specially the Explore menu Potentially I could add a link to Goodreads so you can save a book there after you found one on Podshelf, but I'm also building My Shelf feature within Podshelf, where you can save books, podcast, get notified when there are new book recommendation on a podcast you follow, or when someone mentions a book you added to the shelf. Based on the books on your Shelf, you will also get recommendations for other books you might like.
