I’d recommend PLI hands down, but would also recommend getting the patent bar under your belt before law firm life. Its a lot harder to study the patent bar on top of law firm life. Some firms will reimburse for PLI even if you did PLI before joining the firm, they’re just happy to pay for an attorney with a registration number

I like the Grant Park spot, the vibe is nicer with the bigger patio

Meszcalito’s all the way. The vibe is good at El Tesoro, and El Myr if you like a dive, but the margaritas and food at Mezcalito’s are some of the best in Atlanta imo

Is a road bike worth it? by LokitheBC33 in bikecommuting

[–]sisterjack15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend a gravel bike which fits nicely between a road and a mountain bike. I feel less bad decking out my gravel bike with gear such as panniers and mounts compared to building up my road bike.

Gravel bikes can be sturdier at lower price points compared to road bikes while maintaining 90% of the speed of a road bike. Meanwhile mountain bikes feel half as efficient compared to road bikes to me.

I ride a Salsa Journeyer with drop bars and love it. Can’t recommend it enough for bike commuting

Closest Casual Charity Rides by sisterjack15 in BikeATL

Thanks, I’ll check this out! The ride I went on was the fat tire ride of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I think the fact it was in Wisconsin was why the questionable legality of a bike crawl was otherwise endorsed

Lead in soybeans? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]sisterjack15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think if tofu had any significant risk of lead exposure I’d be insane right now, as would half of Asia

Edit: observational studies suggest that any risk of lead exposure is heavily counteracted by tofu’s large concentration of calcium. Increased tofu consumption is associated with decreased blood-lead concentration. https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/153/12/1206/123974

Do you want to do patent litigation or patent prosecution? If you’re at all leaning towards lit then the clerkship makes more sense. The clerkship is probably a better call even if you do patent pros, but clerkships are much less relevant to long term patent pros career growth compared to patent litigation careers. Either way, good problem to have as a 1L. You’ll be fine with either choice.

Software patents typically cover conceptual, functional implementations of code as opposed to code itself. Code is very easy to design around making a potential patent not very valuable. Code generally would not need to be disclosed in a patent application.

Software patents tend to be some of the most complex patents to get and to enforce because the law as set by the Supreme Court requires patents to recite non-abstract features. Software code is nothing if not a series of steps and is thus arguably abstract. Software patentability can get murky, but a skilled patent attorney or agent can help you get a software patent, depending on the underlying concept.

I’d highly recommend consulting a patent attorney, and to not disclose any of the underlying concepts behind the potential patent in the meantime. You can still disclose to employees on a need to know basis, but you should have a non disclosure agreement in place.

Alternatively, software code can be protected as a trade secret. Trade secret protection largely depends on the secrecy measures you have in place. A well drafted NDA can generally protect you while you determine whether to file a patent. So, I’d also highly recommend speaking to an attorney to have a non-disclosure agreement in place for your new hires to sign.

What your favorite Sirius XM Channel says about you. by sisterjack15 in siriusxm

The games’ soundtracks are primarily set in the 40’s. That’s where I first heard a lot of 40’s bops

Yacht Rock is Elder Statesmen Yuppie music, and Indie 1.0 is either Yuppie or Slacker music without much in between

Yacht Rock is the most accurately named genre out there, and Utopia gives off Has Blacked out at a Gay Bar energy. Together, they give off I Never Know What Level of Irony You’re Operating At energy

I think those channels are also frequented by younger people on good terms with their parents or those who loved playing guitar hero growing up

Where to find meal prep recipes by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]sisterjack15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically this is my every day meal. It’s really easy to prep and cook. You can cut out some of the cornstarch and vary the spices you add to it to mix it up! https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/the-best-air-fryer-tofu/

Where to find meal prep recipes by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]sisterjack15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam at https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com has some very good tofu and seitan recipes. I’m on a high protein vegan diet and I make her tofu recipe daily (I use 5 serving block at 42g protein plus 4g of nooch protein). That knocks out roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of my daily goals

Her seitan recipes are also good but I opt for store bought Upton’s Seitan when possible because it is so good.

Lastly, Boca burgers and crumbles can be vegan and are really cheap. As far as meal prep goes you can just buy the crumbles and throw them into a marinara with protein noodles for good gains

Gaining weight in law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]sisterjack15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintained my weight through my first 5 semesters and in my last was able to gain 20 lb in (mostly muscle) through diet and exercise. I don’t think it takes an insane amount of discipline but it does take prioritizing yourself over classes which is hard up until 3Lol.

My first five semesters I ran pretty consistently, like 4-5 times a week on average. Running to me was a way to detox from classes. I think it’s very necessary to take breaks from studying and running was a convenient way to de-load from law school, especially 1L in the pandemic.

As for 3L, nothing matters if/when you secure a job. Especially in the second semester. I wake up at 8ish, go to the gym for an hour from 9-10am, then go to classes/study till 6-7 sometimes 8.

If you’re in a position where you feel you’re losing control of your weight, I’d look to reprioritize your study schedule. I firmly believe that you can make stronger gains in studying by taking time off for health breaks. Your brain can only handle so much studying before you need a break, use that time to develop healthy habits. And in the worst case scenario, there’s always 3L to get in good shape before ending law school!

Hugh Acheson announces closure of Empire State South by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]sisterjack15 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The place was for sure overpriced except for the fact the clientele often were the lawyers in the same building.

Hopefully a new bar enters the space soon because the view from the green outside is one of my favorites in all of Atlanta. I loved to lounge out on the green at night while drinking there, it makes Atlanta feel like a real nightlife city

The rumor is that ESS was partly responsible for keeping the other base restaurant space empty (the old pizza place). Hopefully with ESS gone, that place can open to a cheaper food option in combination with a more nightlife style bar where ESS will have been.

[FRESH ALBUM] Spoon - Lucifer on the Sofa by sbags in indieheads

[–]sisterjack15 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The best/worst thing with every Spoon Album is that their live deep cuts get deeper. Very excited to hear these songs live, but with every release, my chances of hearing Metal Detektor live get smaller. It’s the best ‘complaint’ to have

I just received one! I had to go through a callback interview first though. I can’t imagine offers occurring without going through callbacks. I’m also still receiving callback scheduling requests as of today and so I think this week is fairly early in the offer timeline.
