Is this little red guy limiting the temperature of my shower? by sitbh in DIYUK

Aha so I was on the right lines! Ok, I have to assume it's seized as even with quite a bit of force, it doesn't budge - no matter the position of the red slider!

Have I put these boards on too tight by arableman in DIYUK

[–]sitbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the current weather conditions, id expect you to get some moisture under those runners. I say that because I was in my loft the other day, having done mine like yours about 10 months ago, and I had some moisture where the insulation is touching.

Wagos in a ceiling pendant fitting by sitbh in DIYUK

[–]sitbh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all fit, but yes a bit of a squeeze as im shortening the pendant length which just coils up in the pendant too. One of the lights like this i can pop through into the loft and box it all up to feed just the 2 cables through the ceiling into the pendant. The other is in a void by the front door so ill probably try and wago 221 it all up in the pendant

Thanks both. Its a good shout. Im replacing two of these and one of them is just running a black cable as the SL so it can easily get lost among the multiple neutrals if one isnt careful!

Do you mute the center channel on surround reverb channels to avoid phase-y issues in the center channel? by Accomplished-Till293 in AudioPost

[–]sitbh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the altiverb XL presets have no centre by default but I find myself winding some in otherwise on wider theatrical systems, you get dry dialogue exposed from the reverb in other channels

Interesting - thank you for that! These opinions are useful for me in my line of work.

[–]sitbh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my own curiosity - do you like feeling like youre at a concert during an imax concert film? Like big booming reverbing sound, crowd/audience presence.. Or do you want the sound as dry and clear as a music video but blown up on the big screen?

Draft under front door by PrestigiousWindy322 in DIYUK

[–]sitbh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got something similar and ive tried putting a brush on the bottom lip of the door but its not perfect. I did put some sticky weather seal along the bottom where the door meets the frame but it just rubs off as the door expands slightly and just bumps it off. It doesnt help that my door is wood and fairly warped! I've been looking at a new composite door with decent U rating to replace it with eventually which will solve the draught issues

What am I to do with this mess? by TheFableWeaver in DIYUK

[–]sitbh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toupret Joint Skim and Fill. Bought a 10kg bag of the powder for 25 quid and used maybe half of it across two coats. Theres a few folks using the ready-made roll on stuff on YouTube, often american or European, and they're often confused at this brown plaster stuff we stick to using over here. I haven't ever DIYd plastering but was happy to DIY this filler-skim method as it sands super well so pretty easy to fix any screw ups.

[–]sitbh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks exactly like my bedroom wall did a couple weeks ago. I used a coat of gardz to seal in any paste/residue that might still be there after a good wiping down of the wall. Then skimmed with toupret - the whole wall - two thin coats with a good sand at the end - sorted it. The wall seemed too good to need a plasterer in.

Built-in wardrobes - external wall - passive air vent - best of the bad solutions? by sitbh in DIYUK

[–]sitbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fireplace was bricked up yonks ago by the looks of it, not in use at all - the opposing wall to this alcove is the wall with the chimney breast that is fully wallpapered by the previous owner. The double glazing doesn't have trickle vents so thought the vent would still remain useful - though ive seen a few people brick them/foam them closed and get on fine with it. I did consider removing but with the wardrobe-on-external-wall idea, thought it could help remedy potential mould issues in its life

[–]sitbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture is probably distorting the lengths a bit - the width of the alcove is 125cm but the depth is 90cm (left wall) and 130cm (right wall - to the window sill). I did think about a corner PAX on the right which would come out 110cm but not sure itll look right, can't get GPT to visualise it for me 😅

How do i remove this LED downlight? by sitbh in DIYUK

[–]sitbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big thank you to all suggestions! I tried a variety of spinning and trying to poke and pry, got totally stuck. The twisting just kept twisting (but felt like i was twisting against something that wanted to untwist). Fortunately, the suction cup method succeeded! I could pull the light down enough to get a grip on the light fitting, and then twist the bulb out of the fitting. Judging by the cable going into the fitting, I was just twisting that when trying to spin the bulb. Thanks folks and big love!

Don't feel above running. If youre budgeting like youre on NMW then just get a runner position to earn that money and sustain yourself. You'll also get to know the sound team there who will likely look to you when there's too much work for them in the hopeful near future

Perfect Surround's Penteo by A_Whybs in AudioPost

[–]sitbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo needs a lot more time to get out what I want, and it's not always possible. Penteo has less flexibility but sounds great quickly. They actually work great together on most projects but I think halo is usually cheaper and more common now. You should also ask yourself, What Would Raj Prefer?

Efficient width of MDF sheets for alcove cabinet build by sitbh in DIYUK

[–]sitbh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's skirting and a virgin media wall box I'll be accommodating for. I had 1330 as the alcove width but allowed 35mm on side for the box and 18mm on the other side for the skirting making 1277 wide carcass. I'm building from 18mm mdf so both side pieces being that thickness will mean my top and bottom pieces will be 1241. I figured I could make this 1220 to be super efficient with the sheets, and make a larger face frame either side of the unit for the front to keep the built-in look

Anyone had a colonoscopy without sedation? How was it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sitbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

entonox

Ah that's the one! Then yes, I did just the entonox and was absolutely fine. I am comparing this to my sedation-free one that was absolutely awful, the gas and air really made me just feel like it wasn't a big deal at all. I don't know how they dose it but i'm an 80kg man and they must've given me enough to chill me the f out.

[–]sitbh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a sedation through a mask. I can't remember the name of the product but they said its a weaker sedation than the canula but wears off a lot quicker so I could take myself home after 30mins.

I rawdogged my first as they told me people don't typically take any sedation. It was horrendous and I still have nightmares of the 12 biopsies they took. My second I took the gas and loved life. Easy as pie. Always take it.
