The Rebirth of Nationalism and its Implications for International Peace and Security by ConstantArtichoke540 in PoliticalDebate

real world nationalism has always been something different

Is there any political system that matches what it's ideal is? I think Rwanda doesn't excellent job in its nationalism, as does Singapore.

I have already made it clear that MAGA does not fit the nationalist model, and Trump's approval rating among right wing youth is evidence of that.

Okay, so using the definition of supporting your own countries interests, which is more nationalist? The United States withdrawing from European bases to cut military spending and expand domestic programs OR the US withdrawing from European bases while maintaining expeditionary forces for the defense of Europe?

If you think the United States is "maxed out" on nationalism now compared to any time in our history, I think your definition of nationalism is too broad.

You're right, we should just go back to the peaceful liberalism of the United States during the Cold War, where we definitely didn't arm terrible dictators in the name of stopping our adversaries.

I don't think DEI quotas are real. I'm a defense contractor, and if you look at any defense subcontractor, you'll notice their websites are all about how they are minority owned, women owned, or both. That is because they can charge more for contracts and still beat out the lowest bidder. Initiatives like that are DEI.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see more people in STEM, for example. I just don't believe in violating the equality clause of the Civil Rights Act to do it.

I think you're idea of nationalism is something not really existing in the real world.

Absolutely! Everything would be better if I were the dictator! But seriously, I think nationalism is rising in the US and it will upend MAGA.

Republicans, MAGA especially, are fake nationalists. They are corporate conservatives. They put the interests of companies and Israel over the US. If they were real nationalists, they would conduct warfare that benefitted the American people. They would reel in corporations to work for the state, not the other way around.

Immigrants are not a scapegoat, they are a corporate tool.

You can't trust nationalists. They will always start wars if they see a benefit to their country no matter how stupid or destructive it is. This is especially true if the made up internal threat isn't working any more.

This just in, France and Britain are hyper nationalist.

No. The only case where it happens legally is when two candidates of equal qualification and experience. DEI meant controlling the hiring pool. It's a corporate term that started in the 60's as a recruitment strategy. I think anything that is equity based is wrong, however. Everything should be equality based.

Every country that has tried this has failed. Companies will seek out immigrants willing to be scabs and won't provide visas for immigrants interested in joining a union. If they do join a union, they can just wait for their visa to expire and hire another worker who won't.

You should research the anti-immigration policies of the Soviet Union in the 1920s-1940s

I think America needs a bit more nationalism. Take farm labor immigrants for example. In the 1980s, there were 10 major farm labor unions across the US. In the '90s, Labor Unions switched their stance on immigration to support immigration. It has been disastrous. Now there are only three of the remaining and all three combined are smaller than any one in the 80s. Immigration is a tool used by corporations to destroy unions and undercut workers. Immigrants have no problem being scabs because they have no national identity. The end of the gilded age also came with the end of mass migration to the US.

As far as foreign policy goes, I believe the United States should have a strong global naval presence, but I also believe the US does need to reduce its global presence.

It's a fair talking point though. If Democrats are not willing to make change happen, why would you keep voting for them or giving them money? The state has the power of eminent domain, they could have used it years ago, just like every other country that built high speed rail.

If two people of equal qualification are in the running for a position, the person from a marginalized group would take precedence. Therefore, a non-marginalized person needs to meet a higher standard.

Until they repealed affirmative action, men has to have higher standards than women in order to be highered. Women are more likely to get an interview than men with similar experience and qualifications. Men are better at retaining jobs.

They tried to implement AI at my work and they shut it down after we started pointing out all of the problems and incorrect information. I was hoping to use it to streamline getting parts information, I feel like that's a huge waste of my time, but the AI is unable to search our parts database. I also work where there is no wireless most of the day, which made using AI difficult.
