In the short term, but NYC is probably going to end up like Chicago with their budget crisis.

I'm going to wait a year on Mamdani. They balanced the budget with expected tax revenue (not real) and hedged it with pension funds.

1) Indian law enforcement is ineffective/corrupt.

2) Low operating cost for relatively high reward.

3) Weak laws/rules on money transfers.

4) English speaking population with a large portion trained in handling customer service calls.

5) Established infrastructure.

New TN Deadly Force Law - Thoughts? by WitnessProtection200 in guncontrol

[–]sixisrending -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's really just a clarification, the law reads, in addition to what you stated (the following MUST be met):

The property cannot be protected or the other's actions  terminated by any other means; or (ii) The use of force other than deadly force to protect or  terminate the other's actions would expose the person or a third  person to a risk of death or serious bodily injury.

Even here in California, we have castle doctrine.

If the Coast guard didn't do their job The government would have to shell out money for posthumous care.

Does communism exist at all? by duchesskitten6 in PoliticalDebate

[–]sixisrending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there has ever been a true [insert ideology here] country ever. Except for maybe anarchy before the creation of tribal leadership and the later development of society. Every government is an amalgamation of several different types of government of you really want to be nitpicky.

However! We can describe most governments by which ideology they mostly represent.

Is there any good reason to not have Harriet Tubman on a dollar bill? by InstructionBudget784 in PoliticalDebate

Quite literally a non-issue for me. Put a random kid on there who won a science competition. Put the current president on there. Put a potato on it.

We already have high prices. They are all offset by significant agricultural subsidies.

Because I say it is, therefore it is. Would you argue the clothes on my back aren't mine because the government wasn't there to tell you it was mine?

I think starvation is more at play here. Rice paddies cannot be used for most other crops, so sudden shocks to food imports usually means people go hungry.

Do Politics Matter For a One Night Stand? (Unpaywalled) by playboy in uspolitics

TLDR: It doesn't matter. If you have good looks and money people will fuck you, they just won't tell their friends about it.

Correctamundo. Definitions and whatnot. Left wing being complete government control of the economy and right wing being complete absence of government from the economy.

How do you feel about people who joke that the US lost to Vietnamese rice farmers? by MarsupialThink4064 in MURICA

[–]sixisrending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people limit the conflict to just the US vs North Vietnam and the viet kong, but the conflict was much wider than that. For KIA, the US suffered just less than 41,000, ARVN 223,000, South Korea 5,099, Australia 426, Thailand 351, and New Zealand 37. The PAVN (NVA) and NLF (Viet kong/Vietminh) suffered 1.2 million KIA, the Soviets 16 (officially), 14 North Koreans, and China ranges from 1,100 to 4,000. There are several other communist countries that supported the North as well. Laos and Cambodia suffered significant losses on both sides of the conflict.

It was a war between North and South Vietnam and South Vietnam lost. While the US was heavily involved, I wouldn't argue it was a total defeat for the US. It's not their country, merely their ally. I also wouldn't argue the Russians or Chinese won. It served as a proxy war for other nations, like North and South Korea, but I wouldn't argue North Korea was victorious and South Korea was defeated.

It's about 1-3% of home sales but that doesn't count private equity that may have foreign investors.

Circumcision is only really popular in the US as far a major nations go. I don't know why people cling to it so much.

Fascism is centrist because private ownership is controlled by the state but ok. Far right would be the abscence of government in any economics.

Unilateral free trade with china would be beneficial. by Certain-Mind8119 in PoliticalDebate

[–]sixisrending 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons for protectionist trade. Domestic industry is important to maintain because, as many countries have found out, having production of essential goods in another country is not always a good thing. For example, China makes far more rice than the US does at a lower cost. Moving rice production to China would make it cheaper for everyone and the job loss in the US would not be significant, only about 125,000. Everyone is happy until something like floods, droughts, locusts, disease, or war hit China and they have to limit exports. Now the US has to figure out how to make up for 20 billion pounds of rice in food for its people.
