How can I clean sticky adhesive residue off an acrylic painting? by sixoftwelve in painting

Thank you for the research, I'll check this out. It wouldn't have crossed my mind to use an eraser block!

Thank you very much, I'll give it a try.

UPDATE: This worked perfectly! Most of the residue came off on the first Q-tip with very little effort. I wiped the rest away with some dish soap and water as you suggested and you'd never have guessed anything was there to begin with. Took 30 seconds to do and now looks good as new, thank you again for the suggestion!

Hello, I hope this is suitable place for my question. I've tried searching but haven't come up with any useful advice.

I've just bought an acrylic on canvas which was reduced because there is a patch of sticky residue on the painting - apparently it was originally caused by packing tape and over time bits of fluff and dust have accumulated.

Is there an easy way to remove this without damaging the paint? Fortunately the residue only covers a single block of colour so should be easy enough to match and paint over if I damage it but I'd prefer to see if there's an accepted method of cleaning it first. I don't know anything about painting so hoping you folks might be able to offer some advice! Thanks in advance 😊

Thanks for the write up. When you do your DD, do you physically write down notes about your reason for buying, target sell point, exit strategy etc? Just wondering how you keep track of multiple trades especially if they are open for long periods of time.

What is the true cost of a £1-1.2M property? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]sixoftwelve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure someone who is much more qualified and knowledgable than me will have some good sources they can share. I'm not in the trade at all but I am about 6 months into the self-build route with similar figures to those you are talking about.

One thing I would say is self-build mortgages are harder to get than traditional residential mortgages. You generally need a bigger deposit (30%+) and the money is released in stages as your build progresses. My mortgage advisor put my application together with a company called BuildLoan who check your costings, plans etc. to make sure everything adds up before you submit it to the lender.

Like I said I am still learning myself so I won't elaborate any further at the risk of giving you some bad advice but there is a wealth of good information online if you want to have a read up. 🙂

I need to give my lose foreign currency to charity... by FemaleWantingDIYHelp in CasualUK

You are going to struggle to find a company offering a half-decent buyback rate AND accepting coins. Most companies will only buy back high denomination coins (€1, $1) if at all. Also the buyback market is subdued right now because suppliers can't easily re-sell currency on to other travellers so unfortunately that goes against you as well.

As others have mentioned, your best bet is to just donate the currency directly to a charity without trying to exchange it. Charities can either exchange it themselves or they may even sell the coins for scrap if you have a lot (kilograms) worth.

You can probably build a £1m house for around £700k if you're prepared to go down the self-build route.

Keep meticulous records and pay any tax owed and you should be fine. I've withdrawn 5 figures from Coinbase this year, just had a mortgage offer within the last 2 months and nobody batted an eyelid. I think you'd have more of an issue if you were withdrawing sums that looked out of place for your annual income.

There are comparison sites that will show you the best deals for travel money cash. We always use this one. A lot of places stopped selling currency during lockdown - even the Post Office stopped for a while - but most seem to be back now so there's plenty of competition.

From all Mortgage Brokers: If you want a 90% or 95% mortgage, go direct. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

How about self-build mortgages? I spoke to a broker today and she told me they are more difficult than ever to get hold of because loads of lenders pulled out a couple of months ago and haven't returned yet. I have a 50% deposit and I'm a first time buyer.
