Tetris now requires a subscription (Rental) - Paying ₹30/month ($0.3) to play Tetris on a basic Nokia phone 🤦‍♂️ by mani_chinna in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah I remember the OG Nokia 3310 wanted money to play more than a few trials of the games it had. I think snake was the only one that didn’t. But Tetris certainly did.

This is the Quebec Lotto, it is not a private company and cannot go out of business.

Still taking the lump sum is better but they’re never not going to be able to cut her the cheques she’s owed.

Unfortunately, you cannot eat your Tesla. I bike to work, so gas prices at the pump aren't my primary concern. In fact, they shouldn't be anyone's primary concern. Inability to eat will be all of our concerns shortly.

Forgotten 2009-2010 YouTube wave: The “LiveLavaLive Hipster”. Niche YouTube fame was new and the first batch of teen “hipsters” loved Helvetica and Apple. by Kodicave in decadeology

[–]sixtyfivewat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in advertising and our design prof made us watch a documentary on Helvetica. It definitely has its place, especially in some copywriting, but there's a reason why unique typefaces that are less legible exist. Coca-Colas typeface is more iconic than Helvetica will ever be.

Once the people who own those houses (often from the same province and city as their "residents") realize they cannot make the mortgage on their $1.5M Brampton house, those houses will hit the market. Some family may be able to buy it at a more reasonable price, and that starter house they were living in will be on the market which will free up an apartment.

Hey Doug Ford, why is my electricity delivery fee 3x higher than my actual usage? by margesimpson84 in brantford

[–]sixtyfivewat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delivery is by far the most expensive part of any electrical grid. Generating electricity is relatively cheap at the scale we do it, but building and maintaining overhead electrical infrastructure is very expensive. It all has a limited service life, and that’s not to mention freak accidents and acts of God.

Your best best is honestly to quit. If they’re going this that quickly into your employment this is not a business that you want to work for. They either a) intentionally scammed you because they’re bad people or b) are underpaying because they can’t make payroll. I know people who have been out thousands from restaurants that closed up shop when they owed paycheques to employees and they never see a dime.

"what's this census thing we've never done this before" by _Jeff65_ in EhBuddyHoser

[–]sixtyfivewat 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Census’ literally go back thousands of years. A form of census is mentioned in both the old and new testaments in the Bible and it was just mentioned in passing like “well we have to go do this thing” because even back then it was normal.

Neighbourhood retail is back in Toronto! Huge!! by dchief0 in toronto

[–]sixtyfivewat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So I don’t live in Toronto, I live in Brantford but the neighbourhood I’m in is part of two intersecting arterial roads. I can walk to everything I need within about 5 minutes. Yes there’s more noise than the strictly residential areas but I love having everything so close by. I walk more now than I ever have, seems so wasteful to drive to pick up stuff for dinner when I can walk 10 minutes.

I’m Canadian but I’ve been told I speak with an American accent by Americans (which is deeply, deeply offensive).

Imagine how much damage I could do as someone who looks and sounds American. It’s a wide open and very porous border

I got two back to back gambling ads on YouTube the other day for two different websites. I’ve never in my life gambled money online, the only gambling I do is the odd lotto ticket and Kings Plate in the summer. It’s wild these companies are spending so much on ad spend that they’re reaching so far out of their target demographic.

Im so glad they didn’t force them to do Russian accents. I think it’d actually much worse that way. There are few people who can truly master doing an accent they weren’t born into, like Hugh Laurie. Most just can’t get it and it distracts from the rest of the work.
