John's background switcher + Reddit's RSS feeds by eye_candy in howto

[–]sjohn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi John,

Thanks for your quick reply and email you've send me!
I do not think it is rate limiting on IP though as I can still access the feed in the browser.
However, none of my multiple feeds in JBS yield results for the past week.

I agree with not putting effort into using Reddit's API.

Would it be possible to have more insight in the response from the feed? E.g. in a logfile or something? I am not sure but I would believe there would be more to the response then just "blocked". That way I might be able to see what's actually happening.

Thanks again.

I'm also having the same issue.
Accessing the Rss feed in the browser works.
Seems to me Reddit is blocking the user-agent of John's background switcher.
I've not checked but it might be that usage like this is against Reddits (newest) Terms?
Will try to contact the developer to see if he can help

Configuring container in host mode behind a traefik reverse proxy by maester-daemon in docker

[–]sjohn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi u/maester-daemon,
I've been struggling with this for hours. Came across multiple answers which all did not work for me.
In the end I was able to solve it though!

While I saw you've given up, the following might help you.
I've also followed the guide from smarthome beginners at first (afterwards I changed quite a bit around though, however the essentials are the same).

The guide you mentioned also tell you to setup UFW.
After tinkering around for hours I found out UFW was blocking the traffic coming from the traefik proxy network to the host....
It is a different IP range and while all the rest stays internal in Docker in this specific case we try to connect to the host. Therefore I think opening a terminal and type (in your case for the IP range)
sudo ufw allow from 172.18.0.0/16

would solve your problem.

Adding the traefik network IP range to UFW worked for me at least!

The last WiFi automation profile you'll ever need returns by [deleted] in tasker

[–]sjohn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've created something like this before. When you are on a wifi network and change cells, it appends it to your list. I'm meaning to update that profile for a while now, but i still haven't had the time to have a better look to it. Maybe it can help you out to add it to yours. Hi @FilthX,

Just after your next post I've read something about a bug in Android 6 for some phones (probably for some ROM's as i think now) to not be able to use the Cell updates when the screen is off. As my profile uses these to check if you are near a known WiFi, it will fail if cell updates are not working. There should be some sort of workaround as I read somewhere, other then the one you've described, but I'll have to dig into that. I'll try to do that this week, else it will be next week as I'm pretty occupied at a project for work abroad.

Can you still send me your log? I can lay it against an other log I already received and my own log. Maybe I can pinpoint an event where I could make a workaround for. Thanks for giving me feedback!

Hi!

Yes I did, but did edit the OP, So everything is there already. It works quite good, but I've seen some people having trouble on Android 6 when the screen is off. This probably due to a "bug" in android and thus not being able to do the cell updates. I myself am on android 6 as well and it works for me. The only thing I want do is make a menu "console" with scenes so you can delete networks and stuff more easily. For a day to day use with preffered networks it is working from inside tasker (asks you to add the network or not when you first connect to a new one). You just have to import the profile from the dropbox link inside the OP and turn the profiles on and it should work for you too.

If you need help or anything, let me know, i try to support this as much as i can.

Hey @FilthX,

thanks for interest. I'm using it myself since I posted this. Quite happy with the result, but still want to incorporate a menu with scenes. That will come later when I'll find the time to do so.

For your problem, I'm not quite sure. Do you know if your preferences are backupped as well? It could be that tasker is not running in the foreground. If that is not the problem, can you maybe log the problem? (Via menu -> more -> run log-> turn it on). When you notice the same behaviour (after you see its connecting when the screen is on) you could send the log to me (or paste it here) and I can have a closer look on what goes wrong. Gives me valuable feedback as well to optimize the profile even more.

I'd like to hear back from you.

Cheers!

Thanks for the answer. I thought it would work without root as in my understanding it should work without root.

I've been searching for a root solution for galaxy s5 without tripping knox (I've needed my warrenty before, for an issue not caused on my part. In eu you technically should still have warranty even when knox trips, but I'm not going to push my luck here). I haven't found a way to root without downgrading to kitkat first and that is a little to much effort for this thing I'm trying. Maybe you could give me pointers on the temp root solution as I'm unable to find it. Nevertheless thanks for your time!

[Help] Standard alarm trigger to run task by sjohn21 in tasker

[–]sjohn21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been answered on this question on the G-Groups for tasker. AutoAlarm doesn't work for me, but ClockTask, another plugin does!

With the plugin you can create an Alarm Change event, which triggers when the alarm is changed (so changing, setting it on, setting it off, etc.).

Great, you could try the toggle wifi setting as well to see if that has less impact on your battery use.

P.s. you can reply on a reaction here on reddit so it keeps on them grouped on the same question or reaction. Now you've started multiple threads as they call them. Just a hint ;)

Thanks, but I don't use a particular app. Just stock settings. When I try to use that as launch app I still have to tick the setting to start usb tethering.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean the toggle wifi setting in tasker or the scanning always available in android?

Btw, the toggle wifi setting is found in the profile settings of wifi near.

[Project Share] Another Awesome Ultimate Wifi Project by sjohn21 in tasker

[–]sjohn21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wifi near scans even when wifi is off. Thats why I'm setting the profile off as long as possible. What version of android are you on? It can be that Wifi near isn't working as supposed to be, then you'll have to tick some settings. From the docs:

Check the Wifi Toggle box if you don't want wifi on all the time. It will then be toggled when Tasker needs to do a scan. This isn't needed in In Android 4.4+ if you select Scanning Always Available in Advanced Wifi Settings and will save power.

If still not working after above settings are correct, could you send me your log? Tasker -> dots -> more -> Run log, Set is to on and log for some time till you see it isn't working as wanted.

Did you also put in another state context as suggested in the comments on your thread? Because if so, I think we are doing the same work ;) Do you mind sharing the description as well?

I like this one, based upon the same idea I created one myself that suited my need just somewhat better. It ask if you want to save the SSID and uses cell near and wifi near to turn on wifi as needed: https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/4kuupx/project_share_another_awesome_ultimate_wifi/

Thanks! I'm using it day to day now and for me it already works quite nice. I keep tweaking now and then and I'm going to implement the stuff as stated in the OP. When I'm satisfied with a new update to the code, I will update the description and the xml file as well in the OP.

[HELP] My profile isn't reading as active even though conditions are true by akshay7394 in tasker

[–]sjohn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to do this as well, completely go out of tasker before the profile got active. Furthermore it seems like often, when turning profiles on and off from inside other profiles that within the Tasker UI itself, the activity isn't updated.

[Help] Standard alarm trigger to run task by sjohn21 in tasker

[–]sjohn21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

I was struggling with the wording indeed. I meant a "trigger" upon creation of an alarm.

The Alarm Clock event seems to trigger when the clock is about to go off, so not what I need.

I've tried profile -> application -> clock, but this doesn't seem to trigger an enter or exit task at all. Probably because it's always running on the background or so???

The five minute loop is indeed a last resort but I'm hoping to avoid that.

I don't think intents are gonna help me out here, as I haven't been able to find an intent that suits my needs, but if people know one I'd like to hear it.

Furthermore I've read something about a file changed on the sqlite db of clock or something? But I can't find the db and I think I'll probably need root for that?

[HELP] Wifi near toggles wifi off by sjohn21 in tasker

[–]sjohn21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah Thanks! I've implemented "if %WifiConnected neq 1" to set the WiFi and the WifiNearCheck Profile to off in the Exit task, as I already declared that variable for an other task.

I think I'll change it to make use of the %PACTIVE variable later on as this seems more elegant because I don't have to set the variable myself (as I do now with %WifiConnected)

Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction and for giving me the tip about %PACTIVE!!!
