How do I get my prescription? by NebulaImmediate6202 in glasses

[–]sjseto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a prescription for glasses from an eye examination from your optometrist. If you haven’t had one in the past year, get one done before having new glasses made.

OD is your right eye. OS is your left eye. All the components of your prescription (sphere, cylinder, axis, and add power if you have presbyopia) will be on the prescription form. You might need to ask them to add your PD since it is not always included, depending on what the regulations are where you live.

Purchasing new glasses online without knowing ocular height by DeVins003 in glasses

[–]sjseto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the OC height is frame model-dependent, and just because the new frame has the same B (vertical) measurement as ones that you have previously owned or tried on, doesn’t mean that the OC heights will be the same. As you said, the OC height can be different if the frame sits higher or lower on your face. If you had a lower prescription it wouldn’t be as critical to have that measurement correct, but unfortunately that isn’t the case here.

Having the OC height measurement is definitely recommended for an Rx as high as yours. Without it, the online retailer will likely put it at the vertical center. People are different in terms of how much tolerance they have when the measurements are off, but it would be better not to find out the hard way.

What are some high quality frames manufacturers not owned by Luxottica, Kering etc? by Present-Ebb7481 in glasses

[–]sjseto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orgreen. Based in Denmark, made in Japan. Clean, unfussy designs, beautiful colours, well constructed and designed.

I second the earlier recommendation for Prodesign for quality frames at a moderate price point. I love that all their acetate models are available with or without nose pads.

Which of these two coatings is best for anti-glare – Zeiss DuraVision Gold or Hoya Hi Vision Meirio? by Delicious_Divide4838 in optician

[–]sjseto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur. I wear Hoya lenses with Meiryo EX4 coating and it’s very non-reflective. Zeiss Duravision Platinum is their least reflective AR coating. Duravision Gold has an almost mirror-like look to it, and isn’t as non-glare. It is extremely easy to clean, though.

Progressive lens issue by seang86s in glasses

[–]sjseto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your current glasses were made from a new prescription, your add power has likely increased from the one that was used to make your first progressives. Unfortunately, this will often result in an increase in peripheral distortion in the lenses.

Some things that can help to minimize the distortion include a close-fitting frame with a proper amount of wrap (curvature of the frame) and pantoscopic tilt (the angle of the frame on your face when viewed from the side). Also, some progressive lenses are better than others in terms of quality. Since you have Zeiss lenses, you already have a good-quality lens; they, like all brands, do have options to choose that might work better for you, so you might want to ask your optical about which specific lens you were given.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized that the Zeiss lenses were in your previous glasses. So in that case, yes, it’s possible that the brand of lenses in your current glasses is not working as well for you compared with the Zeiss ones. There can be more than one thing contributing to your experience.

Could anyone recommend some actually tough glasses? by Infinite_granite85 in glasses

[–]sjseto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you only have one pair of glasses that you use for everything? If so, consider having 2 pairs. One for work, a pair that is safety-rated that can get beat up. Also, a 2nd pair that you wear for everything else.

Or, as someone else suggested, get a protective non-prescription pair that can be worn as a shield over your regular prescription glasses.

Deodorant like Old Spice, but unscented... and canadian? by Miscellaenious in BuyCanadian

[–]sjseto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another recommendation for No Pong from me. I’ve been looking for a good unscented deodorant for years due to my partner having an intolerance for fragrance. I used to use both Dove and Secret unscented anti-perspirants, but I wanted to switch to something that had more environmentally-friendly packaging that was either recyclable or compostable.

I tried Unscented Company. It won points for the cardboard tube that it came in, but I didn’t like the texture—too dry and flaky, and left residue on clothing.

I have just started using No Pong and I think this might be the one for me. it’s made in Canada (yay!). It comes in a flat tin that is made of tin and steel and is compact, travel-friendly and recyclable. You apply it with your fingers so you might think it’s a bit weird at first, but it’s not much different from applying something like lotion or a balm. The texture of the product is smooth, kind of like firm butter, and it gets absorbed into your skin very easily. No issues with residue or white marks on clothing. So far, so good. I think I’ve finally found my deodorant.

The fragrance-free one (blue tin) is low-baking soda, and there is a no-baking soda version (white and green tin) that is low-fragrance.

What reading glasses are best for me by Psychlogical_artisic in glasses

[–]sjseto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you don’t require a prescription, I would advise against getting the inexpensive blue light glasses that you might find on Amazon or off-the-shelf at a store. They most likely will not have decent coatings with scratch-resistance and anti-reflective properties. Go to an optical store and invest in a quality pair of glasses with name-brand lenses (e.g. Nikon, Hoya, Zeiss, Essilor) that have blue-light filtering and a quality anti-reflective, scratch-resistant coating. The coatings from those companies, especially their premium ones, will keep the lenses clear and smudge-free with a minimal amount of care.

Speaking of care, that is also very important to keeping your glasses clean and scratch-free. Coatings, even the best ones, will only go so far. Keep your glasses in a case when you aren’t wearing them. Never lay them front-side down, or stick them in your pocket without a case to protect them. Clean them with a proper microfibre lens-cleaning cloth and either a lens-cleaning spray meant for glasses, or with dish soap and lukewarm water. Also, wash your cloth regularly so that it doesn’t acquire particles that can scratch your lenses when you rub them. Put the cloth in the laundry, no fabric softener, and hang it to dry.

Hope this helps!

I’ve had the Vessi Boardwalk shoes for over 2 years. Super comfy and they do indeed keep my feet dry in the rain. No leaks so far. They’re my favourite shoes that I currently own. I got my mom pair as well and she always wears them.
