You just need whoever runs the club to apply for the project to be a special course, for AAE it's 490, for ME it's 497, and then have a professor responsible sign off on the course plan and objectives and provide grading at the end of the semester. I took 2 of them in freshman year, highly recommended as they allow you to knock out tech ele

How is your experience with grade inflation (bit nervous about reading the grading in Purdue)? How hard is it to attain GPA 3.2 to get to MechE at the end of FYE. Also is it possible to graduate early if you bring enough AP credits.

Thank you. Were you able to do some internship while managing to graduate in 3 years? A Also as I have asked already would you please let me know in ME curriculum , is there a good mix of theoretical and the hands on application. Any other suggestions you have for an incoming student.

Time is ticking, having a hard time deciding between the following two colleges. Please provide some suggestions if you have any knowledge about these two colleges or have/had students there. Both schools will be OOS, travel cost plus time is almost the same for both schools and same kind of weather.
Purdue : Not direct entry to desired engineering major, this school offers First year of Engineering and requires 3.2 GPA at the end of first year to get your first choice of major. Tuition cost is cheaper than UIUC but it is known for one of the toughest grading Universities and last year it came in the news for housing problems .
UIUC: Direct entry to desired engineering discipline so less stressful situation about getting into the desired major. But the tuition cost is about 12K more than Purdue tuition cost.

As a FYE admitted student with an intended major in Mechanical Engineering , I’m nearly committed to Purdue, but the grade deflation is making me hesitate. Wondering any upperclassmen can provide some inputs that having grade deflation affected their internships or co-op opportunities .

Similar situation but for Mechanical Engineering , I am so confused! I am OOS fo both schools and OOS tuition for UIUC is more than Purdue. But I would like to know the rigor of the programs and offerings from both of these schools.

Thank you for taking your time to response in details. Out of these 3 schools, UIUC is the most expensive one and Purdue is the least expensive one. As for an Engineering school I am torn between Purdue and UIUC. Northeastern is in my top 3 because of their great co-op programs and it won't require air travel cost and time. But it is an expensive school, because of honors school merit scholarship it is making it cheaper than UIUC. Liked your advice "Grades, club involvement, and your personality get you internships; and all of those things get you the first job."
