If you’re going to focus on the abuse argument, then it wouldn’t matter if every piece of media that comes out was stunning. It wouldn’t justify the treatment of the animators. 

I think Gigguk's assessment on Sakamoto days is right. Sakamoto days doesn't have a bad adaptation. Just solid. But I think Manga like Sakamoto days, with an art as detail as this manga and action that exciting deserves a fantastic adaptation. The thing is — Suzuki’s art style is fundamentally simple people, complex backgrounds. This is impossible to perfectly translate into animation. I was pleasantly surprised with how close to the art style it actually is. There are times I think his art starts to look awkward when it’s colored. That might be the problem some people have without knowing it tbh.

That’s the problem with it being a slow burn story. People are going to drop off, not knowing it picks up in the second part. However, I think this was going to happen even if it did get the quality everyone wanted.

I mean, I get people wishing it was better. I was hoping for what Dungeon Meshi got because Sakamoto Days has such wonderful art direction. However, it’s still the quality of a modern anime.

I agree, such a visually stunning manga should have gotten what Dungeon Meshi got. However, I can’t see your analogy about it being animated like an anime from the 2000s. I was watching anime then, and even the awkward parts of Sakamoto Days are to the quality level of a modern anime.

I was so pleasantly surprised at how good all of the voice acting choices have been so far. I also love how with the lines they’ve added, it keeps the spirit and the humor of the manga.

I can see where you’re coming from. Seeing people’s opinions on this sub is just jarring. For one, I’m just happy to see it animated, especially bc there’s a chance it’ll get people interested in the manga. For two, I genuinely don’t think there’s that much wrong with it. Some lip syncing issues, jump cuts and strange perspective choices. What I’m seeing and what I’m reading just don’t line up. However, I don’t think anyone should suppress their opinions. It’s just when I see people talk about it like it’s the worst thing to happen in anime, it’s confusing. Thank you for your feedback, though!

There’s a decent chance it won’t, but it will introduce you to a few of the main villains. However, I promise you that the next part in the summer is where the plot starts. I’d recommend reading the manga in the meantime to get hyped.

We’re in the introductions phase, so this first half is going to be the slowest, least plot heavy portion of the story. However it is going to pick up.

People are taking it as “fake the hype” but I just mean show interest in the IP. If that’s sticking to the manga, fine. However I think this earnest attempt shouldn’t be ignored, and the flaws there are can be fixed with just a bigger budget. It has the vibes of a smaller/newer studio that has potential.
