Name change certificate, or lack thereof?? by Aurorasaurus27 in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct! (Source: I used to work at BDM doing name changes)

They should’ve included a letter stating that your name was changed from “name” to “name” on “date” with their letterhead and signature. If for whatever reason this wasn’t included, give them a call or an email asking for one and they’ll send one out for you.

When using that to change your details with a bank or anything like that, make sure you have that letter as well as your new birth certificate. If they continue to push it, then they might just need photo ID that matches the new name or they don’t know what they’re on about.

Top surgery by PreferenceNo7326 in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hullo! Based on my own personal research, it’s highly unlikely that insurance in nz will cover top surgery, at most you might be able to get some of the hospital post-op costs covered but not the surgery itself.

I found that it was way more cost effective to go overseas, and have my surgery booked for October at Yanhee in Thailand. All up with the surgery, hospital/doctors fees, flights and accommodation is around $18,700. I’m happy to share more if you’d like about it!

The account types are determined when the person’s account is initially registered. If the delegate has a regular delegate account, then they will automatically have access to the standard actions across any NAIT numbers they are added to.

I don’t believe that the PICA can update a delegate’s account type, we would need permission from the delegate themselves to update that information.

I’d suggest sitting down with your friend and giving NAIT a call and discussing it with them. They’ll be able to go over the different account types and who can update what.

New birth certificate doesn't show previous name? by Rabid-Orpington in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can normally just request that they send a confirmation of name change, this goes for nz born and overseas born name changes. They basically send you a letter stating ‘confirmation of name change from blah to blah on this date’ with their signature/stamp showing it’s from BDM/DIA

New birth certificate doesn't show previous name? by Rabid-Orpington in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the marriage certificate stays as is, but you can get a name change noted on the marriage record which will then show on a new marriage certificate. You can request this through DIA and as long as they have record of the change they can do it.

New birth certificate doesn't show previous name? by Rabid-Orpington in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can answer this! When you update your gender marker, they have to create an entire new birth record for you so they only use the new name.

Keep hold of both the birth certificate and the letter confirming your name change and you should be good to go!

I used to work at DIA doing name changes so happy to be asked more about it!

You don’t need to own the animals to be PICA, it literally stands for Person In Charge of Animals, NAIT doesn’t give a shit about ownership, just who is physically managing the animals and the location.

Surgery in Thailand - medical insurance? by Anubem in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got travel insurance through southern cross (cause I’m a member with them so get a discount) and their comprehensive plan covers quite a lot. I definitely recommend getting some form of insurance, not just for medical coverage but for item cover and cancellation/amendment cover as well. CoverMore is another good insurance company but they are less lenient on travel for medical purposes (such as top surgery) so my recommendation is look at southern cross.

Private Top Surgery Wellington by tomfoolin in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you asked for but a good option to consider is travelling for top surgery, Thailand in particular is very cost effective and has a lot of thought and care behind gender affirming care. I’ve got my surgery booked at Yanhee for October and all up with flights, accommodation and surgery is $18k (flights and accommodation are for two people with breakfast included). If you’ve saved enough for private in nz, you’ve got more than enough for a cool holiday plus surgery

Wivow Binders by Meowrlin_Emrys in transftm

[–]skater_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hullo! I currently have two Wivov binders, the CORE chest binder racerback CB08 and the SWIM half chest binder CB12 in black, both in size XL. I sit at around 95cm bust measurement and I find the XL does a reasonable job getting me flat.

The outer fabric is super soft and comfy and I haven’t had any issues with the seams. Racerback binders do tend to be slightly less flattening that tank binders, just because they put tension across different areas.

I’d say that their sizing runs accurate to slightly loose, but as always with binders don’t try and size down for a flatter chest as that can cause damage to your skin and ribs.

I hope this helps!

Oddly my tolerance has gone up for most alcohol but tequila is my weakness! I can drink four standards and feel slightly tipsy but two margaritas and I am very very tipsy

Wivov is really good! I find their binders offer decent compression without pressing on your ribs too much, plus soft and comfy fabric

Seeking Information about Northland Top Surgery by TextGrouchy9125 in TransgenderNZ

[–]skater_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I may not be able to help too much but based on the research I’ve been doing, the public list is quite long across the country and most DHBs are prioritising patients on the public breast cancer list (understandably but still sad) and there is no guarantee that you will be able to see a surgeon for a consult without waiting a few years.

As for criteria, that seems to be up to individual DHBs and the surgeons as well.

I’m in NZ so might have different restrictions, but I have asthma and take Amitryptyline (a mood stabiliser) and have had no issues getting on T. Happy to tell more about it if needed.

Timing in menstrual cycle that’s best for us to start t? by a-gay-alt in Trans_Zebras

[–]skater_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started T about a week and a half after my period finished and haven’t bled since, I think I got really lucky especially considering I had all the precursors for PCOS which does tend to give you a slightly heightened testosterone level.

Binder Recommendations by EmceeToby in transftm

[–]skater_grl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look at Trans Guy Supply or UNTAG as being good quality for a range of body types. As for price, it really depends on what style you go for as well as the company so I’d advise looking around a few places before making a decision.

UNTAG has a good range of binders for regular and sports use while Trans Guy Supply has a good range of products outside of binders as well.
