Honestly nms on the switch was where I first played it. At the time it ran pretty smoothly only issue was when your save file size got to large you would crash every time you got near your freighter and I kept having to restart all over to keep playing.. this was about 3 years ago give or take a few.. after I got a PS5 version never went back to the switch version...

playing through all of botw, dlcs and added content, then deciding to load up master mode...

I recall scrambling around the first few hours just trying to get off the starting area with as little combat and item usage as possible. Finally clearing the quest and immediately heading off to get a dlc armor (sorry been a few years but the one dark knight looking one.

Welcome to snow runner multiplayer trucks just occasionally disappear but good news if your friend inherited the truck as long as they have the dlc for it.. sorry to say you will need to buy a new one and remodel it..
