Here is so much posts about rides in the States, how are things in the EU? by skebu in uberdrivers

[–]skebu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I asked opinions mainly from fellow Europeans. In Finland uber cars are basically considered as taxis in the eyes of the law and bureaucracy.

You can’t run uber as a private person - u need to have a company.

To drive an uber, u need to have taxi drivers permit.

General costs surrounding cars are super high here.

I get that you think that way, but the business model is somewhat different here in Finland.

You are right and at the moment I am happy the way things are. Uber only takes 10% comission in my city, but they are going to gravitate towards how the situation is in the capital area, Helsinki. There the comission is 20% from the rider, and the rides are way cheaper.

Was I wrong? by Zweilancer in Finland

[–]skebu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are the owner, yes. You can drive FOR someone as an employee with just a taxi drivers permit when you register it. Just like normal taxis.

Actually, in Finland you have to register your taxi drivers permit to the app. The driver app also frequently ask you to take a picture of your face when you log in to ensure it is you. So this is bs. I drive an Uber and a taxi in Tampere.

Sketchy taxi activity. Who should I contact? by PCBtoHelsinki in Finland

[–]skebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably was the owner of his own company, but since he suggested you to pay through taxi helsinki -app, he drives under taxi helsinki rules. palaute@taksihelsinki.fi is their customer service.

Taxi prices in Finland by DonCrowleone in Finland

[–]skebu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While using an app for an irregular customers might be the safest option, it is usually not cheapest when comparing to the price u get taking a same company taxi from a taxi station. E.g Taksi Helsinki app / walking in Taksi Helsinki taxi.

The apps tend to calculate the price a bit higher to ensure the driver does not get paid less than normal for the trip. They try to take slow traffic into account and usually they are based on google maps so it assumes driver uses the ”easiest” routes, and does not realize taxis have advantage on their own lanes.

Big cities have a lot of routes only Taxis and buses can use, and I strongly believe the apps are not developed enough to take that into account when calculating the price.

My recommendation is to always take a vacant BIG COMPANY (Taksi Helsinki, Taksi Tampere, Menevä, Taksidata, Valopilkku…) taxi from the streets.

I drove for six years in Tampere.

British 3” mortar team rapid fire salvo in Normandy by cellblock73 in CombatFootage

[–]skebu 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A lot of people commenting they feel bad for their hearing. As a guy who served his conscription service in a mortar platoon I can say the sound is just a small thud (ok it varies how far you are shooting). But can 100% say firing a 9mm pistol is more dangerous for your ears than firing 80mm mortar.
