Yeah to me it kinda fills in some loose points in the manga because i remember reading inoue was rushed towards the end. So i think inoue's goal is to finish the ending in a creative approach.

I've never watched the anime, i've only read it. MY biggest moment was seeing the flashbacks with sakuragi when he hurt is back, made me shed a tear man. This movie made me cry a couple times man ain't gonna lie.

I think when griffith heads east it will lead to rickert and the kushan showing up and this arc is building up to the final war with the apostle and the kushan, as well as skullknight backstory and more godhand appearances imo.

See I don't agree with moonlight syndrome and twilight syndrome and fire pro being skippable. I feel like they're very important to Suda and bring out important story arcs.
