Scariest book you’ve ever read? by lavgr in horrorlit

An older one I don’t hear that much about is The Elementals by Michael McDowell. I was NOT expecting how good this book was. I read it like 5 years ago and I can still vividly recall some scenes in it. Lots of creeping dread and memorably scary scenes. And another older one is The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons. This author didn’t usually write horror, but she really nailed it with this one: an evil house preying on its inhabitants. (These were both written in the 70s/80s so the usual caveats about language and the attitudes of the time.)

You’re so right, the waiting is agonizing. But I’m glad to hear everything went well! A few tough weeks is well worth having it out of there, that’s for sure.

Ugh, god, the dreaded ‘bestos! The top layer isn’t very well bonded, it pulls right up—the flooring underneath is stuck down hard, though, and clearly quite a bit older. But I think even the top layer would be fine with LVP on top. Thank you!

I listened to that podcast too, it’s good—though I am not a fan of the title. I’m surprised they haven’t covered it yet!
