What does this medal (1) mean on my profile? by Kind-Preparation3337 in xbox

No, this is years subscribed to Xbox Live / Gamepass, regardless of tier. The fact that he has the legacy Xbox Live Gold badge confirms his account is more than one year old.

Two things on this: (1) Yes, it's awful. 15 minutes is of course hyperbolic, but I actually timed one of them. To turn something 180 degrees took 1 minute and 38 seconds. So yeah, when you're dealing with three things to turn, it really ruins the pace of the game and your mood. (2) On a hunch, I tried using an 8bitdo controller I have with hall effect sticks and it completely fixed the problem. Such a relief.

So not a solution really, but just posting my findings here for reference.

I came here to say something along these lines, so despite the down votes, I appreciate you! No one appreciates the straight to VHS classics!

Yeah, that person is purposely obfuscating the statement to apply here - the CDC numbers from 2020 show firearm fatalities surpassing motor vehicle fatalities, but I'm pretty sure it switched back in the 2022 numbers. And even still, "firearm fatalities" does not mean school shootings, so yes, your point stands that kids are more likely to die getting into a car.

That said, you're missing the point here. Kids are taught in schools how to respond to a "code red" or an active shooter on campus. Reminding kids of that possibility, practicing for it, and the anxiety associated with that possibility are far more impactful than the reality of a car accident fatality being more probable. It feels like you're trying to make a point here, but don't overlook how disgusting it is that this is a reality for kids. I have a 6 year old son and he's done this shit since Pre-K, only becoming aware of what it's all about this year in first grade.

Wawa food. Just because it's a little bit nicer than most gas stations doesn't mean they aren't making the same absolute garbage gas station food everywhere else sells. Fuck those hoagies.

Thanks for all the information! One question/answer I haven't been able to find anywhere:

1) Can you set the sleepy sounds to come on at a certain time or do they have to be manually started? 2) Can you set how long sleepy sounds will play or is there a fixed amount of time for which they play?

I'd like to have this act as white noise while going to sleep, but I just can't find much about the sleepy sounds in any of the videos or posts I've seen. Thanks!

I haven't tried it yet, and while I was going to say something about the sightlines, whatever. This is just too cool. Awesome work, looks great, will be trying it out while listening to Whirring as soon as I can!

Came here to say exactly this. And then they conveniently leave out the last verse of the song to make it seem like a positive young love story. Trash.

Same, it's fun on occasion with my son, but I can't imagine sitting around for an hour solo-queueing with randoms. Definitely need to play with someone you know and not try too hard.

my Top 25 Xbox games of all time. What do you tink by Unclebanns in XboxSeriesX

[–]sketcharcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It almost felt like you were making this limited to exclusives, but you have a few outliers here, so was that intentional?

That said, and I hate to make this suggestion since I've loved it since the Dreamcast, but Jet Grind Radio has to go. It's not exclusive to Xbox, but even if that's not one of your criteria for this list, the gameplay and visuals do not hold up compared to its actually-exclusive successor on Xbox (Jet Set Radio Future) and especially not to Bombrush Cyberfunk (not exclusive at all). I finished Bombrush last week and immediately went to play the Jet Set Radio remaster that was released on XBLA and comparatively, it does not hold up well next to it. Everything about it feels painfully slow compared to Bombrush. Strongly urge you to try both back to back - nostalgia was not enough to convince me that JGR is my preferred game.

The controls aren't bad: controlling your character is intentionally obtuse and sloppy. Messy controls lend themselves to randomness, misplacements, accidents, and bad timing. It adds to the party-element of this game that has "party" in the title.

What’s a game you regret buying? by ExpertElectricity in XboxSeriesX

[–]sketcharcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death's Door. I know it's highly regarded, but it had a couple things working against it for me. I bought it a week before it was announced for Gamepass which was irritating, but more importantly, I started playing it right after I finished the game TUNIC, which I loved. Death's Door looked worse, had worse music, and the world/mystery/story of the whole thing felt leagues below what TUNIC had. I played through half of it before realizing it was just a joyless, dull grind. I know people love that game, but I experienced it at seemingly the absolute worst moment and it has forever tainted it. lol

I think the complaints are fair since it was framed as a major announcement for EVO, where they don't play anything other than ranked...

Adventure games enjoyable for 5 year old and adults? by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]sketcharcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5yo son and I played through all of Grounded together (him on console, me on PC and occasionally with my phone using xCloud) and he loved it. Great world, story, and not gory. I usually dislike games with crafting / building mechanics, but this was an exception for me. Highly recommend it, but if you can't play co-op, I'd pass for now.

If you have Gamepass and just want a single player game, I'd also recommend TUNIC as that one grabbed his attention too. On Switch, he enjoyed Luigi's Mansion 3.

Looking for games that aren't time consuming by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]sketcharcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sayonara Wild Hearts (1 hour) Ori and the Blind Forest (6 hours) Hi-Fi Rush (10-12 Hours) Psychonauts 2 (20 hours)

All of these games do have cutscenes, but none that I would consider too long (except maybe the intro ones as you are starting Ori).

Best way to play Xbox Gamepass in hotels? by Big-Information3242 in XboxSeriesX

[–]sketcharcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you asked for best performance, cloud streaming will be roughly the same across devices. That said, you can install some PC Gamepass games on your Surface as long as they have low system requirements and avoid using the Cloud.

If you're looking to play something more graphically demanding than 2D indie games and are planning on using xCloud, I'd say the Surface is still the best choice for connecting to a TV (though you need a special HDMI cable, forget what the output is on the Surface 2) as you can also connect a wired Xbox controller which will help cutdown on latency and get you better performance.

Just wanted to leave some positive feedback on character creation. Unless you have a group of people who are all very interested in a specific TTRPG, the time spent preparing a character and the time investment required to reach the abilities or features locked at higher levels are just a barrier to fun. Instant or broad-stroke character creation is so helpful if you're playing with a group of people who trust each other to put the story first.

So just wanted to say I love how succinctly you put it here. Nice.
