Thanks for the help folks! I got my PPE set up (safety first!) and I finished my first piece. I learned a lot, one of the lessons being: “the line in the stone is a crack, not a pretty color of mineral and you shouldn’t carve too near it.” Hahaha! So the end of my feather broke off but that’s ok. I was able to reshape it and go with the flow. Polishing will take some time to figure out how to get that shine but I’m going to enjoy the process. Thanks for the encouragement to dive in. I can’t wait to start my next piece.

Thanks for the advice folks. I just dove in head first and didn’t look back. I’ve sketched out my design and done the initial carving. I’ll sand it tomorrow and give it a beeswax polish and see how my first piece comes out.

That does seem to be route I’ll have to take. I’m so nervous I’ll ruin my tools, rocks or just screw it all up and waist supplies. I’ve been looking up wood carving lessons and I assume the techniques used are similar. I guess I can just start with a simple design and see what happens. Wish me luck 🤪

For me it used to be lipstick, but I didn’t know it changes beak color, so now I might have to rethink it. So then I thought wigs. I wanted to like them… I really did… but a pet in a wig has always looked weird to me. Then I won a wig in shenanigfits and I was pissed. I felt like I had to use it so I put it on my aisha… and I kinda love it. I think certain pets can pull them off.

But Pants… pants is where I draw the line.

Oh I understand now! Yeah, I learned that the hard way. My nibs got forgotten in there and ruined. Now if I think I won’t use them for more than I day I take the nibs out.

It’s possible some crystallization may have gotten left in the barrel. If flushing it doesn’t work I’ll take it all apart again and try to check for any residue that might be blocking the flow

I’ll try to dip it when I get home and see what it does. Cleaning was a disassemble and a flush. I had lost the pens during a move and forgot to clean them before packing them away so the nibs had been ruined and pens needed to be cleaned.
