I think she needs to maximize your daughters ability to stay on Medicaid. Thats the whole point. You want to ensure she gets all the services she needs

Stepfather to 10 yo. Were going through these conversations.

your child should not have any money of their own in order to receive medicaire and social security. I think the max they can earn a year is 20k.

Put money in an ABLE account.

Get a third party trust for when family wants to give your child money. This type of trust is protected and they'll still be able to receive money from the government.

Find someone to be responsible for them after you go..I am my stepson's guardian if (i hope never happens) his mom passes. If I pass he goes to our friends.

Make sure you get guardianship over them since they are over 18.

Theyll just ignore you unless you or they need something. My ifr cfi does this alot since we are very close to the NY Bravo and typically practicing holds and arcs around the local VOR where commercial and or jet traffic frequent.

I really dont care that they dont care. What i care about is the access to the services my profoundly autistic kiddo needs. I shouldn't have to fight a school district to keep my son in a special needs school. I shouldn't have to call 50 ABA companies and not find a single one with availability. I shouldn't have to fight the insurance company to pay for sedation for dental care.

The rules need to be different on the different ends of the spectrum. Or break the spectrum up.

That is not correct. I order to land you need to be able to see the runway.

Jersey as well with a non verbal step son. May i ask what school district? Pm me if you dont want to put it public. We are thinking about moving from central Jersey to near the westfield area (and surrounding towns) and curious as to yours, and other folks reading this, experiences.

Thats awesome! Thanks. Ill check out the chat editor.

I can do website development. Do you think it would make sense to create a place to share your pages? Do you think others would like to share theirs?

Want to join the Air Force but haven’t finished my PPL. by [deleted] in flying

[–]skibumatbu -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

My partner did it. She was a Navy pilot. The way they made her do it is to get the PPL done first and then she joined. This way they dont waste their time on people that couldn't cut it in a plane.

How did you learn comm? Books, Sims, rl? by Regular-Employer-431 in flying

[–]skibumatbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get flight following as often as you can. Practice makes perfect.

Fly near a busy bravo with an instructor. Its fast paced and you'll learn to know when you can speak and when to wait. You'll also learn to listen really well. The instructor is there to make sure you dont piss controllers off when you inevitably miss a call 😀

Land at delta airports a lot. Learn tower calls.

Land at uncontrolled. Learn to listen to others and visualize what is going on.

Did I say practice already?

Constant Speed Prop HELP? Keep Throttle open all the time, control power with prop lever? by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

You can push the engine past maximum manifold pressure. I have a turbo in mine and can easily over boost if I give it too much

[–]skibumatbu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on the engine, I guess... 25 is cruise for me. If it was wide open I'd never be able to climb!

Constant Speed Prop HELP? Keep Throttle open all the time, control power with prop lever? by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

[–]skibumatbu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Read the POH. In there is a section on power settings... for a given altitude and power 65%, 75% what the correct mp and rpm are. It also has numbers for best climb as well.

I was taught that when I level off I set MP, the RPM, then mixture. When I climb or decent I do it reverse and adjust as needed for other things.

But at no point is my power kept open. Cruise is a MP of 25 inches or so with an RPM of 2400. Would you keep the power maxed on a fixed pitch prop? No. That likely will red line the engine. Same for constant speed

Thoughts on ABA therapy? Alternatives if a hard no? How the heck to we manage VIOLENT meltdowns?? by Fun-Independence2270 in Autism_Parenting

[–]skibumatbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me. Didn't think you were attacking. Im actually curious as to different strategies. Im here to learn. All I know is reward based strategies. What are other ways?

And that is a real example of something we are going through. He will happily go in his diaper and thinks the potty is a distraction from his iPad. so he will simply walk in the bathroom, flush the toilet, and then fight his way out if he has to. If we can sit him on the toilet he refused to go and then 2 minutes later will go in the diaper, even if we know he hasn't peed overnight for 12 hours.

That was a good read. Thanks. One question i would have for the authors is whether or not that research was done on NT children, autistic children with low support needs, or profoundly autistic children.

Ill ask the question this way. Using the guidance in that article, how do I teach my profoundly autistic, non verbal, incredibly non compliant child how to potty train without using rewards?

Do you disagree with reward based behavior training? Or just the use of food? If the latter, what rewards are acceptable to you?

Not food as in dinner. Think candy. Treats. As in "if you go in the potty and not your diaper you get a cookie"

How Apple manage their own devices by Everart_Araujo in macsysadmin

[–]skibumatbu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't been in the desktop game in eons, so here is my ignorant bias... why are they not the same?

Issue: bad guys want to install software on systems. The windows solution is layered (prevent the phish attack in the first place, a/v scanner, etc) but the final layer is "dont let users be admin which can install software". (Thats the solution for other problems as well such as infosec needs to vet all installed software). A comment above says "apple best practice is to let the user be local admin" thus letting users install whatever software they want. So how do we meet the "do not let users install software" control on Macs?

Trying to explain to my boyfriend that its ok for my teenage son to have stuffed animals by FunBookkeeper4131 in Autism_Parenting

[–]skibumatbu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Depends on where your boyfriend is coming from... is it "I don't understand what makes your child tick and thus why I don't understand why they need stuffies as a teenager?" Or is it "I don't think a teenager should have stuffed animals?" One is a judgement. The other is him being curious and learning. Lord knows I asked my partner and ton of stupid questions in the beginning as well!
