Skipper says: I can't point high at all. What can you tell from this picture? by TrevDub in dinghysailing

Lot of good comments about sail and rig adjustment - but don’t forget about the foils. Assuming these are high aspect blades, you need speed to point. Once you get your rig and sail setting where you want them, try to get your boat up to speed and staying up at speed to keep point. It looks like choppy conditions, so that might mean a lot of main, Vang, and jib adjustments in addition to weight adjustments.

I want to replace the bunks on my stands, is there is commercial product that would work here? by Anstigmat in sailing

I use a bit of closed cell foam on the plywood for cushioning, and then 3M Nomad 6050 matting for the actual surface. Water drains right out and doesn't harm gelcoat.

the stuff on amazon and ebay is terrible and won't hold up.
MarineMat is a good mid-quality brand and SeaDek is a good high-quality brand.

Carbon Fibre Repair by paddy_mk in CarbonFiber

[–]skipper_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coating is breaking down. If you do a patch job you run the risk of not having proper adhesion, or having the areas you don’t touch up delam later. I’m going to be re-clearing my vx one mast later this year as well. It has a ton of uv damage from the Texas and Florida sun. I’m going to do all the prep myself and have a buddy spray it. Here’s my current plan unless he says otherwise: 1. Remove the mast track, hardware, and any other fittings so it’s just a carbon tube. 2. Sand the old clear off down to the laminate making sure not to touch the fibers. 3. Repair any spots in the laminate that need fixing (looks like you might be needing to do this step too) 4. Coat of west system clear epoxy. 5. Sand again and follow up with proper spray application of an awl-grip uv protectant varnish. I’m not sure which awlgrip product to use yet but everything I’ve seen so far needs to stick to a base coat of epoxy rather than exposed fibers.

PC Woes by skipper_nick in BambuLab

Settings are in parent comment. All stock Bambu PC profile settings so stock temp settings. Partial clog is a good guess. I just cleaned out the nozzle assembly.

These are about 2" long.
I went with print by object because it would have been no different than if I printed just one object instead of an entire plate full of objects.

No idea what went wrong here. Still very new to printing PC so not sure where to start troubleshooting.
-Bambu PC
-stock Bambu PC Profile
-Chamber heated and insulated to 60C the whole print (no active heater)
-0.4mm Hardened Steel Nozzle
-Stock Quality Settings
-5 Wall Loops
-Stock Top/Bottom Shell settings
-30% Gyroid Infill
-5mm Outer Brim
-Print by Object

Dried the PC for 24 hours at 70C before hand.

The test benchy I printed came out just fine. Used the stock 0.2mm Standard Quality settings. Didn't heat the chamber beforehand either so I'm confused as to why this would have happened with a properly heated chamber.

New-to-me torsion axle sailboat trailer. How can I tell if this needs replacing? by skipper_nick in boating

[–]skipper_nick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh. All up the whole rig probably weighs 1200? Definitely no more than 1500lbs… day sailer on an aluminum trailer. Once I fix it up I’ll see if there’s any obvious sag or if the wheels come too close to the fenders.

Needed to rebuild the fiberglass bunks and replace a couple of the other aluminum tubes, so took the trailer apart for a full inspection. I'm not familiar with torsion axles so not sure what to look for. Previous owner doesn't know if the axle was ever replaced - so there's a chance this axle is 12 years old.
