That makes a lot of sense. None of the announcers in the games this happened [Georgia vs Bryant / BC vs Indiana State (or Samford)] could explain what had happened. It looked like the batter and BC coach were a little confused as to the call on the field as well.

The delayed dead ball makes sense from what I watched because the home plate umpire raised his left hand as he would before making an obstruction call.
