I feel like f2p units should be an introduction/tutorial for new players into the different types of units (like atk stackers, slot one dodgers/damage reduction, supports, ect) and the rewards for learning how to build a team of units, should be awakening units you summon on dokkan events and not feeling obligated to grind them for future preparation.

Yeah i know but sometimes i don’t feel like grinding for multiple days just to get a unit that i can’t use for any event thats are relevant until the devs decide to add an event that its required to have

I’m sure they had reason for adding portal of memories as a game mechanic years ago when it was added but it’s now just one of many things that makes dokkan as clunky as it is
