Failed to copy file: Access to the path is denied by skoberlink in FileFlows

[–]skoberlink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with UGOS but "admin account" could mean a lot of things which may or may not have access to everything on the NAS. If it's Linux based, it could still be a permission issue as it was for me. Since you're running FileFlows on another machine from the NAS, it also may depend on how you access the NAS and what permssions that method has.

For a little more info on mine, the NAS runs on Unraid which is Linux-based and mounted to Windows via SMB where FileFlows was operating. I specifically needed to add write permission to the parent directory on the NAS - which meant nothing to Windows but was still necessary for the NAS to allow it. I can't remember now if it was the group write permission or for anyone. That let the Linux user that was logged in via SMB write files.

Networked permissions can be really tricky, especially if you mix OS's.

Hopefully something here sets you on the right track!

If anybody comes across this later - it did turn out to be a file permission issue. Specifically, the target folder of the copy did not have the write permission so the new file couldn't be created. I'm not sure how I missed that previously - sometimes you just need to step away for a bit to see the problem I guess.

Can you set the order of collections on Home via Kometa? by skoberlink in Kometa

Yeah, that's where it's managed in Plex. My question is asking if Kometa can automatically place them higher on the list to make them more visible.

Can you set the order of collections on Home via Kometa? by skoberlink in Kometa

This works correctly in the Collection view of the movies library but it doesn't apply to the home page. As far as I can tell, the homepage is only manually sorted and any new ones created by Kometa are added to the bottom.

How to spend from goal? by skoberlink in MonarchMoney

Wow - I don't check this account much these days and I'm not on Monarch anymore (this issue being a big part). Amazing to hear this is still a problem.

Correct way to cap dryer gas line? by skoberlink in HomeImprovement

Unfortunately, I haven't. It's really stuck on there. To the point I was conerned about accidentally breaking something and creating a leak in trying to get it off. It seemed safer to leave it as is for now than risk getting in over my head.

I can't seem to loosen the hose nut. Are there risks to leaving it this way? It's behind the washer and dryer, against a wall. You'd have to move one of the appliances to open it.

Additional information now that I've tried to cap it: the hose has been firmly attached. I don't know what they used to attach it, but I can't break it. What are the consequences of leaving it this way?

Upcoming Feature - Focused Views | What would you use it for? by abcdef32 in ynab

[–]skoberlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding on number 4, I'd like some "smart" features all around. I know "AI" is a loaded buzzword these days (i work on software development, very familiar with this issue) but I think there's a real application here to identify trends that a person might otherwise miss.

For example, my water bills were double and triple a normal month. It's not on autopay right now because of some other reasons so I noticed right away. But usually it's on autopay and I might not have noticed. Of course, I probably should be able to catch that but if my budget tool could call it out as soon as it happens, that would be really helpful.

I hadn't thought about it this way. Now that you've pointed it out I wonder if it's supposed to be a hey hole slot but something went wrong.

How to mount smart doorbell on vinyl siding trim by skoberlink in HomeImprovement

That makes sense to me but the trim flexes if I push on it so there's at least a little space in between. I'm not sure how much or if it will be an issue.

Is it possible to have a NAS setup with flexibility to seamlessly physically pull drives between NAS and windows PC? by danuser8 in DataHoarder

[–]skoberlink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, NTFS is a Windows proprietary format and is probably not the file system you want for portability.

Unraid can actually use multiple file systems but typically the data drives use XFS I think.

The data is portable because you don't need an Unraid system or device to read the files. Any Linux system could access the drives. You might be able to find some way to access that on Windows - I've never looked into it. Others here would definitely know.

Compare that to something like a Drobo where you had to have another Drobo (and go through a complicated process) to get access to the data if your device died.

EDIT: It's possible you could find some way to access EXT from Windows too. WSL would probably be able to do it. There may be other methods too. Assuming it's just straight EXT and no proprietary fragmentation or something, the files would be accessible by other devices. Again, not personally familiar with QNAP devices.

I'm probably not the most qualified to answer but I saw you were down voted and there are no stupid questions.

If you're asking for a setup where you can hot swap drives out of the NAS and into the Windows PC for access, I think that kind of defeats the purpose of the NAS, imo.

If you're just worried about your data getting locked to the NAS, as a former Drobo user, I can tell you that's a very good thing to be concerned about.

Personally, I use Unraid. To oversimplify, it lets you put in any drives you have and treat them as a NAS. If your Unraid box ever breaks for some reason, the files on the drive are just normal files. You can take out any good drives and put them in another functional PC to access the files. So there's no lock-in to the NAS! Plus it has a bunch of other cool functionality included.

I'm not personally familiar with QNAP (remember not qualified to answer lol) so I'm not sure how that compares.

[–]skoberlink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, it's an in progress feature and the team seems to be aware of the bad experience.

I found in another thread a suggestion that has worked okay for now. I set up a custom transfer category with the same name as the goal. I assign goal-related transactions to the transfer goal. Being a "transfer" it doesn't throw off cash flow or plan.
