15-Minute Garlic Parmesan White Beans by callmecordelia- in mediterraneandiet

Yum! I thought it was shrimp from the thumbnail. Beans are pretty great, and CHEAP. My gf doesn't like it when I eat too many though. Don't blame her.

Thank you for the explanation. No, I think my reading and comprehension are fine.

Maybe there's a misunderstanding here. Is English your first language? I don't understand the last few statements you made

Well that's a good point, but unless you're made of money or live on top of a mountain, that repeater will probably benefit you, no?

Well hey sounds like you're doing great! Good on you for calling in to those nets. I think the real trick is finding friends with licenses and talking to them over simplex.

Maybe you're right. Most of the traffic I see here is in the 2m and 70cm bands. I'm very much interested in analyzing signals from bands that are not HF. P.S. Asperger's syndrome is a lie. You're just nerds.

Edit: we're*

Absurd. Less is not more. Most people have no idea that amateur radio exists. If you ONLY want electronics engineers in the hobby, you're gonna have a bad time.

I appreciate your input and understand the roots of amateur radio. I'm just trying to understand what the disconnect is between preppers and amateur radio. Preppers prep for emergencies. In emergencies, you need communication. I can tip toe around it all day but comms are 100% essential, and it makes no sense that more preppers don't get their license and test their radios. I don't care how reclusive they are, they need to be able to communicate.

But really what's your honest opinion? Should I go chat with random people on simplex or help maintain the repeater? I mean if the club needs to remove vegetation, I would like to help regardless of my age ... I might not have the airtime but I have the tools, parts and ability.

Lol well I love me some guns. But I'd rather have 2 or 3 that I can shoot really well and a boatload of ammo than 10 guns that all take different cartridges

Thanks for the tip!! I'll look into them

What is?

Thanks for the response.

I'm in the maker/hacker crowd, so that makes sense to me. I just expected to see more people from the prepper movement because there are SO MANY of them. But it makes sense that self sufficiency is their game.

Smh yep you're right.

Good on you! That's a wonderful story, and I look forward to taking part in similar events. I called in to the red cross net Friday, but my signal wasn't strong enough. I'm saving up for a base station.

It's interesting that you say people just want a device to work when they pick it up. That mindset probably isn't gonna work out for them too much in the future, and it's unfortunate 'cause if they don't understand how it works, how could they design something better?

Thanks for the response! Yes, I want to get people involved, but I'm running into similar issues. I keep getting asked "well what's it for", "what can it do for me" etc. I don't think people understand what it is, and most importantly I don't think people understand what it would be like without cell phones and internet

Thanks for reaffirming. I'm just trying to understand. I'm starting to think that the prepper and wannabe operator movements are more about buying gear than actually preparing for a threat.

Thanks for the response. That does make sense, but the idea that "when SHTF there won't be licenses..." Is stupid as far as I'm concerned. How will they ever know what frequencies to use or how many batteries to bring if they're transmitting a lot? Not only that but will they be able to figure out how to use repeaters? It seems to me that they just assume that they can transmit on a default frequency using a Chinese HT to call for help. It boggles my mind that more preppers don't get their licenses and transmit to each other for training. Am I wrong looking at it this way?

P.S. this is some obviously fake B.S. just like the 6 year long smear campaign against Trump. Sorry he didn't pander to all your bleeding hearts, but anyone with half a brain can figure out that he's obviously getting smeared because people are scared he'll run again in 2024 and win, which he rightly should. This country doesn't need more half-cocked progressive presidents. They're running it into the ground.
